@boilingsteam the xdg portals allow for some of this. Like screenshare is prompted, as is keyboard and microphone in certain situations.It does need to get better, but many of the mechanisms to do what you're suggesting are already there.

@boilingsteam @thelinuxEXP @popey @jorge except flatpak brings a uniform runtime. If the runtime is standardised, and run on all distros, why duplicate that effort for no benefit.The one true source of truth (your trusted repository), becomes everyones including upstream's source of truth. Beyond this, and to your point about repos, even Fedora ships its own flatpak repositories - and most of the time they are just one for one copies of manifests from flathub anyway 😆

@thelinuxEXP this doesn't seem as well researched as your usual content. The is more nuance to this than "you're taking away our clones" and "what will the hobbyists use".there's been some good blogs by redhatters and former redhatters that have spoken on this topic better than RH themselves and provides a better view than "the sky is falling" we get from the clone cult on reddit and the like

@jppelt @GotNothing @fatboy I work #education IT. We use a lot of #Linux in the backend. But for client machines, you have to use something supported. People will riot if its not a known quantity.As much as I would love to give every student a Linux device and have them work in Libre office, its just not going to happen. There is probably also the argument to be made that you need to give them the tools they're going to see in the future and at 3% share, they're simply not going to see Linux.

@strypey @jppelt @GotNothing @fatboy @lightweight I'm not saying I agree with the argument, but when we've tried to push FOSS over commercial solutions, this is usually what we hear from faculty and parents.I hate with a passion things like "Microsoft Educator" programs or "Apple Lighthouse Schools". Because it is entirely that, locking in the next generation, "getting them while they're young". But most people are not interested in technology idealism, and it is a big road block

Just watched the first episode of the new season of #futurama on #disneyplus. It's a joke they've done before with the unsubtle wink down the camera, but it was very on point as being true to Futurama.Felt more like classic Futurama than some of the later comedy central ones. Hopefully the rest of the season can continue to deliver

I know people are free to do whatever makes them comfortable here, but blocking someone who disagrees with you in an entirely civil discussion (that is no one was abusive) is childish and silly.A lot of times I value different opinions and I worry people think any discourse is a personal attack?I love the timed mute feature of mastodon much more, it allows me to leave discussions for a day or two and see what interesting things people have to say when things move on

Fantastic Four: First Steps felt like a Marvel phase 1 or 2 movie. That's a good thing in my book. Perhaps if we had more movies like this people wouldnt have been so critical of the last few years of the MCU.
