@virtualwolf I should introduce you to my father’s Apple Watch which I have had to forget-and-re-pair at least twice.

I'll just go round all my VMs and do a routine apt-get upgrade on them...[five hours later] [learns about managing docker instances] [starts crying]

Queueing up for a drive-through test. Don’t think I’ve been exposed to the plague; it’s probably just my persistent sinus troubles, but not taking any chances.

The queue is very Disneyland. You are never more than ten cars deep in the queue, and when you get to the head, you get to join a new queue that you didn’t know was there.

The car in front of me is infuriating. They creep along the lanes of the multias if they were navigating a truck some claustrophobic little maze, and they leave more than a car’s length in front of them.

And now the car in front of me has put its hazard lights on and is proceeding straight for the exit. FFS, can’t drive, can’t queue, can’t even get a stick up their nose. Good riddance.

PSA: make sure your car has a good battery before you go for a drive-through test. There’s a lot of turning your engine on and off. Also, if you have automatic windscreen wipers, turn them off so when they pin your paperwork it doesn’t go for a journey.

I’m home. What a shit theme park. You queue for an hour for only one ride and it’s over in 30 seconds.

Guess how well builders are obeying the “no more than five people on a construction site” rule?It was a bit much to expect; builders are like rabbits: “five” just means “any number larger than four”.

@dajbelshaw @cathal Good stuff. My anecdata: in six years of self-hosting mail I’ve never had difficulty getting my outgoing mail delivered to the big players. Can’t argue the other points though.

@dajbelshaw @toast @cathal Same here, the only magic I do is a static IP, SPF records and DKIM signing. I’ve got reverse DNS (PTR) record for IPv4 but don’t think it’s had much effect. I also don’t think DKIM has had much effect: a spam filter I use at $dayjob [sysadmin] considers DKIM headers to be only slightly positive. I think the most important magic is to stay the hell off of blocklists like DNSRBL. A static IP helps a lot because you own your IP and your reputation. IMO.

Dear tech fediverse,I have been tasked with finding a videoconferencing system that can connect up to four sites across eastern .au. We are primarily on-premises, mixed-operating system infrastructure. Slowest site is 50/20 NBN. Suggestions (+ or −) welcomed.

The thing that upsets me most about this story is the kerning in that sign. https://amp.abc.net.au/article/12604326
