The SGI server rack side panels turn out to be a nightmare to 3d-print. The curved design with its height needs to be printed in two or more slices and eats up tons of support. Also due to +8h printing time for each attempt, material on the heated printing bed starts bending. Don't know yet how to make it look good :thinkhappy:

Miniature SGI Origin rack.. still WIP. First prototype printed. Still have to design the riser cage for the I/O board and print the front again with another filament and more inserts for the mobo PCB.

smol SGI server is smol πŸ”β€‹I've added the PCI riser cage and cards, both with a layer of tiny chips. Now I have to print this up to 7 times to fill up the whole server rack.

Designing front panels for the 98kg / 215lb SGI InfiniteReality graphics brick for 3D print took quite a few iterations to find the best result. Up to 8 hours printing time each time and it took me two full days to find the final variant which is still printing right now.

I've finally finished the 3D printed SGI IR4 front panel with ventilation holes and it fits perfect! This took way too long to get it right but was worth the effort :)

@twylo So cool, do you still have some of the machines you took home? I've got my Octane2 from an ex-SGI employee, it was a fully loaded loaner demo machine with V12. He told me when they closed the factory in Switzerland, it was too expensive to ship all those brand new Octanes from the factory back to the USA, so they gave them away for free.
