"It's the 90's. You enjoy pizza and beer with your friends while hacking on the SGI Onyx. You don't know it yet, but this is as good as it gets." 😻

@mos_8502 @flexion A lot of old machines had a lot more character. New ones tend to be boring, slick, or light show (no hate, I’ve got plenty of Linux LEDs:)).SGI, Sun, Commodore, Sharp (X68000!), NeXT. Some cool stuff there.

@flexion When I worked at SGI people used to walk out the door with SO MUCH free equipment. It was all depreciated down to $0 after three years so they didn’t care, if it was more than 3 years old, take it home with you. I had a couple of friends with Onyx RealityEngines, but all I ever took home was an Indigo Elan and some Challenge servers. Sigh, those were the days!

@twylo So cool, do you still have some of the machines you took home? I've got my Octane2 from an ex-SGI employee, it was a fully loaded loaner demo machine with V12. He told me when they closed the factory in Switzerland, it was too expensive to ship all those brand new Octanes from the factory back to the USA, so they gave them away for free.
