@BrodieOnLinux At my work laptop, I am on Ubuntu 22.04 with GNOME and it was set to X11 as default and I never changed it as it was working and I don't want to tinker with it.Exactly the same setup for my work station that I use at home for heavy processing. My main PC is wayland though. And there, I also use hyprland and Manjaro as there, I allow my self to tinker a little bit.

@BrodieOnLinux Well, recently, I had trouble with my gaming PC using Ububtu. No sound whatsoever. It would not even recognize any sound output devices.Turned out, the nvidia driver was outdated and refused to work. Had to install a new version. How was I supposed to know there was a new driver available, and that I had to install it manually?

@publicvoit For the average person, all these platforms are "free" and do not need an alternative. They do not necessarily care about privacy or digital sovereignty.I guess their main concern is whether there are enough people and accounts to follow. It is the masses that make the platforms interesting. And for content creators, YouTube, Instagram and co. are interesting because of the monetisation of their content.
