@kop316 @hamblingreen Newsboat rocks! I've been using aerc for email and have found it to be nice too. It doesn't do any caching but you can use it with isync.

@nerdtronicsTried mpd? https://git.sr.ht/~anjan/sxmo-userscripts has a menu driven userscript for it that is simple but works well.

@linmob hopefully being on other forges will mitigate the "update README.md" patch volume...

Finally getting the 3D printer set up. There's all kinds of things you can make with these.

@linmob I'm curious how you've attached the usb wifi adapter, and what USB adapter you found that uses ath9k.

@atyh I use this combo; aerc works offline pretty well. https://drewdevault.com/2021/05/17/aerc-with-mbsync-postfix.html

@gabriel "having values and acting according to them" cannot be an exclusively autistic trait. Clearly some people use Gentoo for the h4x0r ricing and drive themselves insane with it, some use FSF approved distros for the "only Free Software" reasons, and others just use Linux Mint and get to work.Plus, I had bbq chicken and potatoes for dinner last night and they were touching, and it didn't bother me at all!

Today I'm trying to find out what will install and boot on an old, crusty, likely horrifically broken Pentium 4 desktop. The OpenBSD install here panics on boot so I'm going to try a few others before giving up. It's got 512MB RAM, a 40GB HDD, and some nvidia card, which is pretty decently specc'd for a P4 of this vintage.

RE: arm64 signal flatpak (for pinephone/librem 5)I will not be shipping "stories". I think most social media is bad, but centralized social media is especially bad and I won't support it. Either I will remove stories from my builds (already found a way to patch out the button) or I stop building signal flatpaks altogether. Adding social media garbage to a service already full of papercuts was the last straw for me.Yes I know it's ironic I'm saying "social media bad" on a social media site.

@AlexVoss - phone number requirement- no linux aarch64 binaries (user must build them)- electron desktop app (but no webapp)- requires android/iOS to use as the "primary" and link it to "desktop" clients- privacy app labels an APK download (for degoogled android) "danger zone" and suggests using app stores are better- hostile toward 3rd party clients- closed server src for a year to ship cryptocurrencyEase of use and security are the only good points. I could go on.

@AlexVoss XMPP. https://xmpp.org/getting-started/It has been around for decades. There are many clients/servers, all easy to set up and run. Matrix is newer, and good, but leaks metadata and both client/server are resource intensive software (not a problem unless you use a pinephone/old computer). The problem is XMPP isn't an "app", so nobody normal I know will use it. Pick a client, pick a provider, sign up just like email. Simpler, but not "easy" like Signal. Requires the user to make a decision.

@nerdtronics if you wanted to use sxmo, the edge branch is ironically more stable than stable. Phosh is good too. The alarm clock actually wakes the device up, so that's neat.

@nerdtronics Yeah, I get you. I've used it quite a bit too, and brought it up since you were posting about it earlier, but I agree, SXMO is just a bit too hard core after a while. Some minor things don't work, and stable isn't really stable, but edge breaks audio too often, etc... I love it but it's hard to love. You enjoyinig postmarketOS though? I've been using (and contributing!) for over a year now. Enjoyed it so much I switched to alpine on the desktop.

@gabriel The fact that I could run an up to date OS and multiple programs on my little netbook, instead of choosing between EOL XP, or slow Windows 7 where my characters showed up in Notepad with a half second of lag after typing. How could the free($) option be faster and actually fit on the disk? Also, VMs, Backtrack Linux, and running off an SD card... so many possibilities that could only be done with Linux. Took me 5 years to go all in, but it was easy.

#pinephone signal app flatpak updates:I moved it to github for accessibility and now I have working CI manifests for github, gitlab, and sourcehut. There is an autobuild.sh script that can be run in cron to automatically detect and commit new versions to CI.Can someone please take this over? I do not use signal anymore.https://github.com/adamthiede/signal-desktop-builder
