Can we make a difference? Yes, we can.Four hours ago, I uploaded two TikToks protesting Walgreens and urging people to boycott the pharmacy chain. In that time, I have received nearly 100 comments and DMs from people who told me that have taken their prescriptions elsewhere. @clive I was fifteen when I last wrote on a battered and wildly error-prone typewriter (where Liquid Paint was produgiously applied and the aesthetics of my impoverished writing conditions were shamed by a horribly mean teacher who held up my pockmarked paper and mocked me before the class). Needless to say, I have avoided typewriters ever since. (And I destroyed the last typewriter I had with a baseball bat before a crowd in my early twenties: part of a performance art piece, but I suspect a kind of reckoning with this awful teacher.) Childhood scars, as we all know, are the thickest ones. But your post does have me contemplating a return to the typewriter -- if only to put the dregs of this demon fully to rest!

I watched his TikTok and it is not so much about her and more about the general problem of Democrats begging for money when they refuse to do anything to codify Roe. A criticism that you probably don't want to hear, but given how many pledges for money I get in my inbox, often from Democrats who have done fuck all, it isn't invalidated by this "activist" being a possible plant.

If we hope to survive as a democracy, we need more of two qualities now in short supply: (1) critical thinking and (2) empathy, especially for people who are now under attack for simply existing. The people in power are delighted when we feast upon our own or we say nothing when unacceptable bigotry and hateful demagoguery is increasingly normalized. I think I'm going to try resisting Threads as much as I can. Yes, I'm on there and I do feel myself succumbing to the same sad dopamine hit that was part of the birdsite experience (and that thankfully isn't in place here on the Fediverse). But without hashtags or the ability to discover original and weird thinkers, it's basically the power law effect writ large. If you had a high number of followers, you'll do well there. You'll come around. Because Zuck knows how to keep you addicted to attention. If you were some obscure rando, well, good luck finding anybody willing to engage with you. And I strongly detest being put in the position of having to prove yet again why I should rate. Having said all that, it has been nice to reconnect with a few people I hadn't heard from in many years. Part of the fun of these elaborate recipes is going through the six hours it takes to make something and then being pleasantly surprised that you can, in fact, actually cook something that takes forever to make!
