@aphyr dude! If you have not heard the EP "Nerds Trying To Dance" by "Pedestrian Tactics" you should. Especially the track "Where'd My Head Go?" which downright weaponizes the Mac startup sound from the Quadra era. You can find it on YouTube. Enjoy!

@aphyr in your area, my experience with Golden1 a number of years ago was good. All the CUs I use now are in Texas so I don't have any good recommendations for your area currently. I am also using Charles Schwab Bank and I've been happy with them so far. But I only have checking and savings with them, and only because I travel and credit unions have issues with that in my experience.

@aphyr being a high risk individual, I don't want to go back to commercial guns. And yes, buying equipment has been a nightmare. I'm still more than a month out before getting a shipping estimate on most things. Restock notifications mostly don't work, so it requires diligence

@aphyr howdy! I recall you setting up water leak sensors and other such protection devices. So you have recommendations on brands and/or controler? I've been having trouble with Mozilla IoT and I'm looking at OpenHAB as an alternative. If love any insights you may have...

@aphyr yes, but now we need a good 20+ levels of abstraction to even make that binary run. Things like go and rust make this better (you get a single file out) but so few people care. The Docker stuff I do at work for our Java apps make me cry... But it's still better than running Java apps bare on the OS with 14 different jre/jdk environments installed

@mntmn all my sources say no, and Google doesn't seem to have much interest

@tbn97@SDFThis server room has me seriously concerned: the temperatures and the expectation of lage amounts of water seems.... Bad

@misty most S3 compatible object stores don't honor range requests for performance reasons. This is one of the benefits most CDN provide to object storage. Enabling caching in your nginx config may help with this.

@misty bummer, sorry that wasn't helpful then. It sounds like nginx may be using sendfile which doesn't allow ranges

@misty I am planning on using Wasabi for my mastodon storage as well, so thanks for asking this question as I too am curious about the experience from those who have already done it.

@misty @jordan In my research, it looks likes you should really be putting a commercial CDN (like CloudFlare) in front of Wasabi for the best experience and not caching it on your own if possible (I am unsure if Mastodon currently supports this)
