It's not particularly cold at the moment (2 or 3°C, compared with -4°C dips overnight earlier in the week) but strong easterlies are really giving my heating a work out. According to my logging the boiler has been running 40.6% of the time this ISO8601 week [¹] compared with the second highest of 34.6% for a week in 2018 December. That's since I started logging in 2017 August.Roughly, I've burned 100 litres of oil since the tank was filled last Friday. 😳 [¹] Weeks starting 00:00 Monday.

@fitheach Ouch. Looks a lot colder over your side, though. My usual forecast [¹] is only giving 0, 1, 2 °C for Lybster vs the -7 and -10 °C for Fort William. Windier here, though.[¹] https://www.ventusky.com/

@cypnk A common expression here in NE Scotland used by shop keepers, etc, is “is that you?” meaning “is that everything?” as in “is that you done/complete?”. It really confused me when I first heard it and I still always want to reply “of course it's me, who else would I be?” leading to the same sort of feeling.

@revk So, assuming you're not, would it be illegal for A&A to say they're not. Canary?Just saying you don't know who the companies are says that you aren't one of them so is that legal? Sigh…

@revk “MK is a good brand of switches and sockets and they are always good quality and solid…”OTOH, a professional electrician writes: “It is a LONG time since I regarded MK as a quality make, let alone the best (as they once were)I don't touch their stuff now. I have had problems getting cables to clamp in their terminals plenty of times.”https://forum.buildhub.org.uk/topic/9362-stiff-screw-on-mk-double-gang-socket/

@danddv77 You know there are plenty of alternatives to Google Reader? E.g,., desktop feed readers like Liferea (as mentioned above and which I also use).@delve

@jpmens The textbook example of: any problem in computing can be fixed by adding another level of abstraction/indirection … except the problem of having too many levels of abstraction/indirection.

@fitheach @matt @Jkp My sarcastic remark on my mastodon.scot account: “So why didn't Salmond just join the ISP?”Yep, Alba will dilute the independence vote but, realistically, there wasn't going to be a referendum in this parliament anyway so not that big a deal. If it gets things a bit stirred up for the next election then probably a net benefit.Unless things change dramatically in April I'll stick with holding my nose and voting SNP for the constituency and Green for the list.

@fitheach Nose holding as I'm more than a tad irritated with the SNP presenting themselves (and being believed, particularly outside Scotland) as the sole representatives of independence but at the same time getting wildly distracted by other issues. I get the impression I'm not alone in this.@matt @Jkp

@fitheach The lambs which have just been born must be regretting the fact.My neighbour to my house site's lambs aren't due for another fortnight but I saw a few new ones around Dunbeath and Latheron the other day and lots of ewes which were obviously about to lamb.Winds gusting to 27 m/s yesterday evening, overnight low of -3 °C and a thin coat of snow lying this morning.

@revk Yes, there is a habit of not using nano farads[¹]. No particular reason that I know of other than tradition so a bit silly really.[¹] In the SI, names of units are lower case (except at the start of sentences, in titles, etc) even if they're named after people. Unit symbols are initial capped if they're named after people (or, sometimes, L for litres).

@JonathanMBR @trinsec Google translate thinks that's Swahili for “Thank you ass is a kick” - am I right to think that's close but not quite what's meant?

@penguin42 I'd vote for ICO. a) they're probably used to ignoring Ofgem. b) ICO is more relevant and probably more clued up on the specifics of the problem.
