@nickfarr I think the term you are looking for is "narcissistic wound" in the way Freud described it 😛

@rixx @rhonda I hope this doesn't seem like I'm gloating about your pain, but I'm strangley glad that CVS is still as terrible as it was 17 years ago

@aral I appreciate the stance but I'm rather pessimistic about its viability. With humans, harm is easily defined, causing pain, damage, death etc. But with technology there's so many examples of people arguing (in good faith!) that what some perceive as harm is not harm at all. The whole post-privacy movement for example.I can think of similar problems in medicine, like the development of the lobotomy, but I think technology lends itself even more to this kind of ignorance 🥺

@TheGibson @Anarkat I'm always sceptical about this sort of thing in the same way that PAID ANTIFA RIOTERS WANTED craigslist ads are false flags. It's not inconceivable and other examples of where that happens exist but... Just a screenshot of craigslist post is a little sus

@meejah @TerryHancock @humanetech @rysiek Right, evolving a protocol is a social problem, and writing code was traditionally easier than to break into the ivory tower of standardisation processes. I think it's (in part) a matter of making standardisation bodies + processes more accessible to a bigger audience. Once the friction between protocol design and implementation decreases, I think federated systems have a chance.
