I want a list of all the children of a #ZFS filesystem. I'm using:$ zfs list -Hr -o name -d 1 foo/barfoo/barfoo/bar/afoo/bar/bI don't want the parent in that list (i.e. foo/bar). Can `zfs list` do that?If not, I can use grep to get rid of `foo/bar`.The output I want is:foo/bar/afoo/bar/b

I remember asking a team member, in the early 1990s:me: maybe we should document the odd problems we encounter and how we solved them?them: Chances are we'd never encounter that problem again, so what's it worth?Don't underestimate the investment for future you. Many times I have hit a problem and not known how to solve it. Searching the internet, I find an old blog post of mine. Not only have I hit the problem again, I've completely forgotten about solving it previously.1/n

Spend a few minutes today to save yourself tomorrow. It's not so much the odd errors, but the reasons for doing something a particular way are vital to understanding the choices. When you, or someone else, looks at the system years later, they wonder: why was that option selected for the function call?A comment solves that.2/2

@anonimno @l33tname My blogs started as online notes. I would document what I was doing as I went along. At somepoint, I read what someone else was trying to solve, and copy/pasted my notes to them in an email.Eventually, I started keeping the notes online and just giving people the URL.

Are you using PostgreSQL on Amazon's RDS? Are you using tsvector? I have a query which works fine at other locations (ie. self-host PostgreSQL on FreeBSD). For testing, I took the problem database and loaded it up on another self-hosted instance. Results are as expected.Ideas?https://gist.github.com/dlangille/982a94aba4e99cc591d8df7136bb0ea9#postgresql #aws #rds

I wrote up a blog post about that tsvector and regconfig issue I talk about yesterday. Let me know if it can be followed. @mwl That looks like a poorly supervised merge.

I think I underdid the disk space requirements. Now I think I need to buy more drives.https://dan.langille.org/2023/02/23/maybe-i-need-another-zpool/

@feld Too long, even with 2TB SSDs?How much stress is places on an SSD? I can see motor stress on an HDD, but an SSD?If my mirror fails, and I put 'stress' on it, if that remaining SSD fails, I've lost everything.

@feld It is interesting comparing the space results of 6 drives raidz2 vs 6 drives in mirrored pairs. It's about 33% more space. Or 25% less space, depending on how you measure it.

@l33tname iocage has been abandoned by the maintainers. https://github.com/iocage/iocage/issues/1289I have used ezjail - but I prefer fat jails.
