@l33tname jail.conf. With mkjail for creating, updating, and upgrading.

@dvl i will check that out to replace iocage but the ezjail usecase is on a vps which does not have ZFS :/

@l33tname iocage has been abandoned by the maintainers. https://github.com/iocage/iocage/issues/1289I have used ezjail - but I prefer fat jails.

@feld @dvl @l33tname and what about upgrading jails? Isn’t it way easier/faster to upgrade one “basejail” instead of upgrading all fat jails one by one?

@petr_fischer @dvl @l33tname the base jail situation has a lot of complications being readonly, etc, that provide enough hurdles to not want to use it.I can upgrade jails on a machine with fast disks in the amount of time it takes to extract the tarball, essentially. This is seconds to a minute or so. My upgrade methods do not use freebsd-update which is terribly inefficient.1) extract base.txz skipping /etc2) mount in the correct source to /usr/src3) run etcupdate and yes | make delete-old && yes | make delete-old-libs4) pkg upgrade -fy5) you're done

@petr_fischer @dvl @l33tname actually my FreeBSD 14 host is now running pkg base and pkg base would make these jails even easier to upgrade. I just haven't evaluated how to install a jail that's pkg-base from the beginning
