I think I underdid the disk space requirements. Now I think I need to buy more drives.https://dan.langille.org/2023/02/23/maybe-i-need-another-zpool/

> I’d rather have raidz2 over mirrors. Just because that makes me feel safer.I'd rather have mirrors because resilvering raidz takes too long and puts too much stress on drives that may also die from the same manufacturing defect if they're nearly identical models / same batch

@feld Too long, even with 2TB SSDs?How much stress is places on an SSD? I can see motor stress on an HDD, but an SSD?If my mirror fails, and I put 'stress' on it, if that remaining SSD fails, I've lost everything.

I guess on an SSD it's not as bad, but since it's an SSD I'd still do mirrors because the risk is much lower than with an HDD

@feld I think you have ebtter write bandwidth with mirrors so it also depends on your workloads

@feld It is interesting comparing the space results of 6 drives raidz2 vs 6 drives in mirrored pairs. It's about 33% more space. Or 25% less space, depending on how you measure it.

Yep, more space, flexibility of being able to pull individual drives from each mirror set and still have all the data, and performance is a HUGE improvement. With all RAIDZ types your I/O is essentially limited to the slowest drive in the pool

If you give me 50 drives, I'd probably design it to be 5x 10-drive RAIDZ2sIf you give me 10 drives, I'll still do mirrors.

@feld You're giving me 50 drives, thanks. I don't think I have room for them all right now.
