@justinz Well well! Isn't that quite the change, since our last chats on such topic! ๐ฎ Happy with #Kinoite so far?

@justinz >have to be layered into the image, which isn't too hardNo not hard per se, but each instance of doing this chips away at the "immutable" premise, if ever a future "bad thing" were to occur...?>used in a toolboxYes, but per my link, & earlier chats here with others, over time the personal management burden on one's various tb/containers might become burdensome, re keeping them all updated along with the core OS...?

@justinz >encouraged to flatpak more applicationsIf you mean "for you", instead of layering many rpms on your pooters, then yeah ok fine. Otoh, given your position/role, if you mean FP more apps globally into Flathub, that'd be simply fabulous for everyone!

@justinz OK. Presumably you've also now installed Flatseal? Are you much of a desktop themer, & if so, are your FP apps "behaving"?I bet you never expected the Spanish Inquisition.

https://restoreprivacy.com/optimizations-in-wireguard-achieve-record-10gbit-sec-throughput/Oh, nice. #vpn #WรญreGuard >The increased speed and efficiency achieved by Tailscale are expected to be rolled to the entire community of WireGuard-based VPN users and make the pioneering protocol even more appealing to VPN providers who havenโt adopted it yet.

@machias Gotta say [well, prolly don't "gotta", but obstinately "gonna" say it anyway], these weeks & days of F38 release-day countdown hype, whilst utterly valid & logical, are also pretty amusing, when seen thru the eyes of someone whose primary pooter is a vowel-prefaced *rolling* distro. ๐ #Fedora #ArchLinux

@justinz @machias >you'll get the same chaos as on ArchA statement completely discordant with my 6/12/2019-installed system, but anyway...Oh, fwiw, last week, one of my F37 VMs borked during a routine pkg update including kernel 6.2.9 or 10 [forget which, atm]. Rebooted into grub rescue screen. Had to reboot into an older kernel, then manually run the update grub cmd. Peeps like to mock Arch as "unstable/unreliable", & point to alternatives like the hat & others. It makes me smile.

@justinz @machias Accuracy matters; I said "amusing". Yes it's funny to me, so what? How is that insulting? You seem determined to view any alternative perspective as axiomatically pejorative, even when no such intention existed. If you were fair to me, you'd acknowledge my numerous posts praising Fedora, & the support team's efforts this year especially.>saying my distro is better or this one is worseWhere'd i say this? Others might well say this for F; i only say it for buntu & windoze.

@omartwotone Yes but #flameshot runs from #SystemTray, whereas annoyingly #spectacle still does not have this basic ability to minimise to ST. Better than both, coz not only for ST minimisation but also delightfully being tabbed [ie, multiple pics available simultaneously] is #ksnip. Works perfectly in #x11, sadly only partly in #wayland [no rectangular area].

@omartwotone Oh?1. what is `Impr`?2. what does the shortcut then actually do; surely not minimise to tray?

@omartwotone There's two types of penguiners; keyboarders & mousers ๐ It seems you're the former, whereas i'm the latter. So, fwiw, instead of using a kb shortcut like you, when i want to use #spectacle instead of either #flameshot or #ksnip, i left-click my Spectacle icon on my custom secondary Plasma launcher panel, which then launches S immediately in #RectangularArea capture mode [my most commonly-used one]. So, it seems like we both get there, from different directions, heehee.

@Alienated53 @aljazeera >individual suicidesI have no data for this, & doubt it likely there ever could be useful data, by definition. Ie, this is mere supposition. Each time i hear of #suicides that "surprised" family/friends, who can't see any overt reason, i ponder the covert reasons. What if the ex-person was a deeply closeted #lgbtqi peep, who by dint of state/national #AntiGay #AntiTrans laws, &/or familial #ReligoFascism, or internalised homo/transphobia, decided there was no hope?

Question to all interested #Fedora peeps posting here over the last few days re your upgrade from 37 to #Fedora38...How many of you, post-upgrade, took care of your #rpmnew & #rpmsave files? If you did, how?If you did not, was it coz [like me] til now [or yesterday for me] you'd never even heard of them before?https://fosstodon.org/@dropbear42/110228427059833636

Running `sudo find / -print | grep -E "rpmnew$|rpmsave$"` yields a plethora of files with path beginning; `/etc/java/java-17-openjdk/java-17-openjdk-17.0.`. Here's a sample file; `/etc/java/java-17-openjdk/java-17-openjdk-17.0.4.0.8-1.fc36.x86_64/conf/security/java.security.rpmnew`. They range from fc36 to fc38. I dislike Java & prefer it not installed. HOW can i find if `java-17-openjdk` is a dependency of another app? I've tried ALL "Provides" ex https://packages.fedoraproject.org/pkgs/java-17-openjdk/java-17-openjdk/fedora-38.html#dependencies & can't find anything.

@justinz >dnf reqoquery --whatrequires java-17-openjdkThanks v much [btw, tis `repoquery`, apparently].Good grief! There's several dozen pkgs listed, yikes! Clearly, i cannot remove it, rats. So now, i need to get on with diffing all the oodles of #rpmsave & #rpmnew files i've found, sigh [most of which are these rotten `java-17-openjdk` ones]. This ain't the fun part...

@justinz This Arch doc is usually excellent for me, but this time it didn't help; https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Pacman/RosettaI know well how to find the dependencies in Arch, but basically didn't have a clue in Fedora. ๐ฎ
