@olav @galdor I think typically the GUI has a higher abstraction than the terminal, so by using terminal applications you get exposed to more stuff that you don't in the GUI.

I like it a quite a lot actually. It even moves the same way as Emacs with the C-b and C-e bindings for example. The only thing that it really not as good it the git integration, because it's not completely mouse free as with Magit.

@louis @ramin_hal9001 yeah sooner or later I will go back to Emacs for sure, but I have to admit it's a bit liberating to use something that just works 🤣

If I start self hosting some pages/small apps, what would be the best/safest way to expose that to the public internet? I understand that I could just do port forwarding on my router, but that makes me a little anxious for some reason. Would it be possible to, say, create a tunnel between my network and a remote EC2 aws instance, and tunnel the traffic through there?#selfhosting

Anybody here uses proton mail? I have been looking for alternatives to Gmail, seems that #protonmail is a good choice overall. The payment plan also includes a vpn, which is also something I don't have atm. Anyone had any bad experiences with it?

Ok next question on my #degoogle journey. Do you guys have any recommendation for a Cloud Storage provider? I do intend to play around with self hosting, but I would also like to have some reliable cloud storage provider. Ideally with the following features:- Good android integration (can sync photos automatically for example)- Able to be mounted on Linux/Mac- Privacy/Security focusedOne that seems to be interesting to me is https://filen.io/, but it seems that it does not have that many users. A lot of people seem to like https://mega.io/ also

I have never come across a concept so hard to understand for me as the OSI model. My brain is simply unable to understand what the various layers are supposed to mean.

@galdor I will give this a try. Jq has been a bit frustrating to me when I try to make more complex queries. But maybe it's because I never tried to actually get a good understanding on how it works

@louis I actually use it at work. Can't say I love it, but it seems convenient to query data in a graph structure no (which is our case)?Although I will say that took me some time to actually get started with it

Going crazy trying to solve a race condition on my go program. I am using a Mutex to try and guarantee that no two go routines are writing and reading from the same struct, but somehow the race detector keeps saying I still have a race condition. I probably am not using the mutex right

One of my New Year's resolutions is that I need better focus. Better focus at work, and better focus on my personal projects. Whenever I have something to work on, instead of just sitting at my laptop and aimlessly trying to achieve what I want, I will try to break up tasks into 20 mins chunks. Whenever I start working, I set up the timer and know that for the next 20 minutes I have to focus on that concrete objective. No distractions, no selecting music, no wtv
