@mastodonmigration @tchambers @spreadmastodon I think this is fantastic! The “pick your server” as the first step is absolutely a barrier to entry. It’s the most common complaint from people for why they don’t use Mastodon. Getting rid of that is huge! Thank you for the effort here!

@stux appreciate your rationality on this. Preblocking them makes no sense to me. I stopped used FB years ago but turning off a spigot of 1B users is bananas when we are trying to get more people to join the Fediverse.

@shoq the mastodon app defaults to mastodon.social now which is a huge improvement. Other apps should do the same. Picking a server at the beginning of the signup process is a barrier to entry no matter how many people say it isn’t. It prevented me from joining for a few weeks because I just didn’t want to do it.
