@thatbrickster I'd like to add you counter hate speech by taking down moderators, decentralizing authority, and organizing against oppression. If the haters have no power over you, it's fine, but we should strive to ensure that, as much as they strive to rob people of their freedom when their speech doesn't follow the party line. That's what enables fascism, not somebody ranting about how great Hitler is, but making that guy a moderator.

@thatbrickster Yeah, and the important thing is the power dynamic, not the speech. If someone has no power over you they can be as hateful as they want and it won't do shit. It's sick that people are trying to equate actually getting hung by an unruly mob, and getting belittled online. It distracts us from what we need to do: empower each other so that we can defend against hate crimes. Not hate speech.

@thatbrickster > what I wasn't ready for was the fact that the police would *lie.*...> I've been told I'm not appropriate to become a psychotherapist because I don't agree with Critical Race TheoryShe says without providing names, incidents, evidence...> As a society we are becoming more and more reliant on other people to solve our problems...yeah I'm calling bullshit on that video.

@thatbrickster Sorry, I was just staggered by that level of naivety. It's a disconnect from reality I normally don't see outside of elementary school students.> I think we are relying on other people. there's always a charity or a helpline we can turn to rather than being empowered to solve our own problems. Our own problem is there are people stealing freedom and opportunity from us, then telling us that we did it by not stopping them. Everywhere. On a massive scale. And you're falling for it.

@RainierBeringer I mean you have a point. If I were striking, I'd go dark until the holidays were over, then have all of us strike at once. I'd tell the company I'll work because Christmas is coming, I won't agree to any of their demands, and they'll bar me from working since I didn't agree, but that's better PR since it's them doing it. Silent strikes, where you agree in public, but refuse to work without pay in private might be a better tactic.

@RainierBeringer Like I heard from the MSM the other day a heartwarming tale of how some good people saw the evil FedEx driver dumping packages on the side of the road. They then delivered all the packages personally, out of the goodness of their heart, without being paid. The article failed to mention that the driver wasn't getting paid either. But stuff like that makes things... less certain for the upper echelons in a corporation.

@tofugolem Meanwhile in touch with reality, a Nazi dressed in plain clothing comes to the bartender warning him that there are Nazis out there trying to invade his bar. The Nazi will help him though, by policing the area with his friends, and keeping those darned Nazis away. For a small fee of course. And you and the bartender fall for it hook, line and sinker.

Just a head's up: #gaslighting is when someone convinces you you're delusional, so you'll let them make decisions in your name. Gaslighting is not when someone tells you that your art is bad, and they want you to draw something else.

@thatbrickster Well, I agree with you. I just think abusers say we rely on others too much, to justify robbing their victims of what little support they have left. The police are bulldozing your tent, but we can't let people give you a replacement tent, because that's just handouts! No, you have to put in the hard knocks that the rich never had to do, and go work for an employer who paid the police to do that, to buy your own tent! Again!

@wilbr I can't blame them for being afraid. They're right to fear the retribution, and they're doing a good job while they continue to be frightened docile prisoners. There is nothing wrong with them, and nothing they need to do to change. The people who need to change are the ones outside the prison, who are tolerating the liars and manipulators among them whispering into their ear that the warden is right, the warden is just.

@tofugolem The real giveaway is seeing nothing wrong with manipulating people to do things they would never agree to if they knew what was going on. Even good things (they're lazy! they're savage! they wouldn't understand!) the red flag is a lack of awareness of the positive feedback effects of manipulation, unable to recognize that the nature of they and their victims is equivalent. Hard to get a fascist to show that though, until you've given them the power they pretend to need.

@wilbr @tofugolem People who won't make themselves vulnerable tend to raise alarm bells like that for me. When we socialize, we take risks, put ourselves in a position that the other guy could take advantage of. The one who shows no vulnerability, that's the one I'm wary of. That's why hand shaking was invented, albeit a crude way to do it.

@wilbr I think MLK was a con artist like just about every preacher. He had some good things to say, but people like that will always tell you love triumphs, because that's what everyone wants to hear. Hatred makes us dangerously vulnerable, but it's still an important part of us, and must be cared for. Go ahead and share a drink over your common hatred of Nazis. Assemble because we're all in this together, and you need allies whether they love the same as you or not.

@BalooUriza For any page on Walmart they show me the regular page, then replace the entire content with only this. It can't be overridden, or stopped. And that is literally a criminal act. Breaking and entering, assault, vandalism, criminal conspiracy, blackmail and discrimination. But uh, I'm sure the electrical cord in question is pretty criminal too. What would you even use a male to male cord for?

@realcaseyrollins Well, if they have their audience slaved to streaming services, investors can be sure of their profits, and will funnel more money into their operation. The sales of videos is probably pretty miniscule compared to that revenue stream.
