@clive Interesting article. I'm sure this is a big culprit, tho I think the role of screens is underplayed — even if numbers were dropping since 1984 (before all kids had cell phones), we have to acknowledge that TVs were getting more ubiquitous, video game systems were coming into homes, and kids programming was hugely expanding with cable television. Also the increased prevalence of ADHD, OCD, dyslexia, and other mental challenges that can make reading unpleasant.

@grammargirl Seriously. Close it. I think you’re right tho, social media exposes us to more deaths, ones we wouldn’t ordinarily be aware of. And unlike with the obituary, we have the opportunity (or feel the obligation) to immediately and publicly mourn. I’m afraid this is going to become a much more common occurrence.

Last night I dreamt about a $32 Diana F with an optional telephoto lens and a match-needle exposure meter in the viewfinder (marked down from $1,000 too). But as I was trying to buy it, my Lamy fountain pen started leaking all over my hands, which is pretty much peak #BelieveInFilm if you ask me.Please share your @ShittyCameraChallenge dreams.

I wonder if it’s time to reevaluate the “great artists steal” mentality in terms of white male privilege. When you think of all the men who’ve claimed success off of women’s work, it starts to feel like like an excuse to use another’s labor.

@khoji I voted “words and images” but it’s not accurate. They come alongside abstract ideas. Sometimes just words, but they don’t exist on their own, really. Rarely silence.

@tante I’m a copywriter. I’ve played with ChatGPT and have had generative “AI” products demo’d for me. I’m still faster and better. My work has emotion and humor. It has less bias. With ChatGPT, I’m both telling the machine what to do and editing its work. I find myself feeling like John Henry — but the machine designed to replace me is a steaming pile of shit. I’m gonna die with my hammer in my hand, oh lord.
