In two months I'm leaving Portland OR (they place I've lived all 33 years of my life) to go move to Texas (another city, but much improved compared to the echo-chamber shit hole this place has become). Come elections, the city of Portland is going to destroy itself.

Literally the only reasons I've come across is in the last 5 years for why someone can't use Linux is video games, Microsoft Office & Adobe (corporate America have heavily integrated these tools into daily use), and the learning curve (where's the C: drive?!?).

I've got two websites - one for personal (blog posts, pictures, etc) and one for professional (professional experience, academic experience, and resume). One is a .xyz and the other a .co domain.

The Fediverse is absolutely a great alternative to traditional social media, however I still view any social media feed (federated or otherwise) as not only a waste of time, but likely to exacerbate problem of echo chambers and devolving into cesspools of tribalism.

I've had friends hit me up over the last week about how to invest in Dogecoin, not understanding it's a meme crytpo. Personally, I think "investing" for the sake of buying any crypto to resell it later at a higher price is retarded, but hey so are my friends. They contacted me with their questions because they knew that I've dabbled in crypto in the past, but they didn't realize that I am also retarded because I lost just under a thousand dollars in that whole endeavor... But this isn't to say that crypto can't be useful such as a hedge against inflation, government/corporate surveillance, or the highly unlikely possibility of the collapse of the dollar.

I clicked on this video expecting to disagree with you, but in fact I 100% agree, especially how academia tends to validate and self-reinforce itself (as someone with a BS within two fields of the social sciences, I've seen this type of behavior even more so in my area of study). My view is this: whether or not man-made climate change is true or not, humans would be wise to take precautions. The media, in particular, is incentivized to share stories with scary headlines with us because generates ad revenue. In my home state, they were seeing record breaking highs and everyone was saying "See! Global warming!". I'm someone who accepts that man-made climate change is likely a real possibility, I couldn't help but question this. The climate is a complex system and there's no way to know that these record breaking highs are directly a result of human activity.I also really wish climate change wasn't politically so polarized. I lived with a guy for a while who was hard right-wing conservative Christian and a big fan of Donald. Despite his political leanings, he was very much what I'd consider an environmentalist (road his bicycle everywhere, recycled what was "recyclable", and did his best to avoid consuming plastics and stuff that's generally more difficult to recycle). In fact, he was much more concerned about climate change and protecting the environment than the vast majority of liberals I've met.

I use DDG and wish there was a way to automatically exclude certain websites from every search query, rather than manually adding "-facebook.com", "-instagram.com", "-stupidpeoplesearchsite.com", etc. As for reddit, I occasionally find useful information there, but it's default "new" site is filled with dark patterns and overall frustrating to use. Dropping in "old" in the URL (ie old.reddit.com) really strips away a lot of the nonsense though.

I live in a two bedroom apartment with my girlfriend and two cats and I initially thought it was way too much space, and had contemplated downsizing even into a van or a "tiny" home. A year down the road, the apartment feels small, not because of "stuff", but because we both work remote jobs and it's difficult to get some solitude. I could not imagine living with one person for an entire year in a tiny home or van. Humans were not designed to spend every waking (and non-waking) moment within 20-50 ft of another person.
