@luke one of the biggest problems with the fediverse though, is that when you sign up to a server, you don't know who you're going to be able to communicate with, there are a lot of instances that are blocked, so you might sign up of one and your friend on another, and you'll never find eachother, because the server one of the people had signed up on had blocked the other.

@flav @pavot the algorithms are terrible, I agree, and it's killing discourse in this country.I wish the media was forced to highlight when articles have no publicly verifiable citations or sources so it's easier to tell that it's no better than a rumor, and they should be forced to provide their sources. I had to provide my goddamn sources when I wrote reports in grade school, I think the media can do it too. I also think this would do a lot to restore trust in many of these institutions.Follow facts and basic logic and then you don't need to "believe" in anything.

if anyone is wondering if a federated image board exists, there is a project called FChannel0 (source code on github). although you can't shill it on /g/ because the mods are removing any posts that mention it.

None of these are going to take off. Urbit is technically superior to all of these decentralized social media things in that it can do everything they can do, and then some, because Urbit is just an operating system built for decentralized networking. So instead of having to reinvent the wheel with custom-made protocols every time they want to launch a new decentralized social media server application, an Urbit developer can just use the standard Urbit programming interfaces that are specifically designed for networked user software; it's very batteries-included. In the future, equivalents to Mastodon, Friendica, Pixelfed, Peertube, and everything else will just be apps running on your Urbit.

@luke @zhoreeq If you want a federated version of Tiktok, why don't you make one?You could modify Peertube, Mastodon, Pixelfed, etc. to function in a similar way and host it yourself. That way, it'd be based on to ActivityPub and be interoperable with other federated software.
