My husband (much, much older) is having a flare up right now too. He has only had one flare up in his life (2 yrs ago) and 'cured' it by taking 10K mg of vit c powder on day 1, 9K on day 2, 8K on day 3, until you get to 1K. Then continue taking 500 mg per week as maintenance. (He mixes it with water and spreads the dose throughout the day - it's important to drink plenty of water when you have gout). He quit taking his maintenance dose about 6 months ago, but that could just be coincidence.My husband's Dr prescribed meds, first time Colchicine, this time Allopurinol (you wouldn't believe the side effects of either of them), but he is doing the vit c regimen again instead. Hopefully it will work this time as well.

I didn't know about cherries the first round, but I picked up a 1976 Natural Remedies book at a thrift store and it mentioned a Dr Ludwig W Blau and his Cherry diet control for gout and arthritis and gave some interesting examples. His article was published in Texas Reports on Biology and Medicine Vol. 8, No. 3, 1950. Maybe I'm just cynical, but I think this is just another hamster wheel. It divides itself into smaller pieces: propaganda or not, actors or not, hospitals empty or not, nurses heroes or not, covid deadly or not, etc, etc. It does not address the main issue - that the nurses 'went along with' the charade. Either they actually participated in it or let actors into their units for filming. They either enjoyed the ego boost and popularity brought about by the videos or were repulsed by it. Those with integrity quit. Those that didn't went on to commit some of the most atrocious acts I've ever heard of. In my opinion, the buck stops with them.There were a few nurse whistleblowers that came forward during that time but they shifted the blame to legal policies and protocols such as end of life drugs, DNR's etc. We must remember that no matter who formulated the covid policies, it was the nursing staff that administered them.Ultimately, it will be their responsibility to look inward to find out why they made the decisions that they made and whether or not they would make the same decisions in the future.

My first venture as a high school graduate was in the medical field. Trained on the job, classes every week and 2 yrs later, tested and emerged with a Certificate that allowed me to work professionally at any hospital. It was this experience that allowed me to see that everyone's level of compassion was not the same. I realized that not only could fellow technicians be insensitive but those in higher positions of authority could too, even Doctors. I worked in the field for only 1 1/2 years afterwards before going to college... I decided working with numbers was much easier on my conscience. I believe that compassion can't be learned in any course of study, rather it must be 'absorbed' during childhood. I also think that, like anything else, it can be eroded over time. I didn't work long enough to say when, or if, I would have become calloused, or to what degree. Maybe personal attitude changes come about so slowly that you don't even notice a change. I was fortunate enough to have two blaring examples of insensitivity that brought it to the forefront and made me change my field of study. I agree that we must never give up on family or loved ones ... you never know which seed you plant will come to fruition. I hope your sister has a speedy recovery!

Although this 2022 article doesn't break the data down by age groups, it appears that there was a big increase in children and adolescent deaths that began in 2019, just before the covid fiasco began. The three leading causes of death listed were from motor vehicle accidents, firearm (murder and suicide) and drug overdose/poisoning. Note the tremendous change, 110% increase, in 'accidental poisonings'. Could this possibly be fentanyl related drug deaths? There is definitely a greater lack of compassion in hospital caregivers today. Although I believe that a certain amount of callousness is required for a doctor, nurse, technician, etc to deal with the harsh realities of injuries, sickness and death on a daily basis, compassion has morphed into 'just doing my job' or 'I was told' or 'that's our standard procedure' or any other CYA excuse. What puzzles me is how and when did this transition take place. How could new caregivers not be affected by others' pain and suffering? I firmly believe the transition occurred when the requirements for a 'degree' were put in place. A student no longer had daily interactions with actual patients as they learned the material on-the-job; instead they only had a 3 month or so hospital training period included at the end of their degree program. Their main focus was on the 'nuts and bolts' of their field while the actual patient was just an appendage to which their proven knowledge could be applied - as if the cut of meat doesnt matter, I've now learned how to cook the perfect steak! It might still be possible to encounter older doctors, nurses, etc that went into the profession BECAUSE they were compassionate but the focus now seems to be on the amount of money that can be accrued. And following the 'protocols' in place alleviates any personal responsibilities that the workers may have which directly feeds back into the entire system of indifference. Sad times indeed.
