Just discovered that Apple have *finally* enabled web push notifications for PWAs. You have to have added the app to your Home Screen, but once you have done that you can enable push notifications the same as on desktop. Now all they need to do is to allow sites to streamline the adding to Home Screen part…

@tek it needs to be watched very closely. My biggest concern isn’t the data harvesting - they can do that silently if they really want to. We know Meta have previous for similar shenanigans. I’m more concerned about an inability/unwillingness to moderate to a good standard. They have the potential to bring a huge influx of new users, some of whom will not be nice people. The mod load of all servers federating with them will go up and Meta may not be willing/able to do what is expected of them

@tek I should probably say that the only reason that is my biggest concern is that I have made a conscious choice that everything I post on social media in any form is fully public. If I were to have a much more locked down profile like some folks do, I would probably be much more concerned about Meta data scraping anything that comes near their service. I can fully understand those folks wanting to preempt the scraping and just block them completely.

@tek Try using the zoom web client. Zoom has amazing background noise cancelling going on - which IIRC isn't available on the web. When I am using the web client I can't use my keyboard without getting complaints about the clicky-clack. Apparently it can't be heard when I'm using the client.(The alternative is they can hear and think it is adorable)

@tek it feels like my immune system has decided to try and speed run the symptom list. I think it has managed to hit every single one of them in the space of 48 hours. Not been a fun 2 days but I’m on the mend at least. My wife has it lingering though and is currently muttering about how she “hates my immune system”

@tek I fully get the exhausted thing. I decided I felt (mostly) fine and was going to work from home yesterday. By the end of the day I was more exhausted than I have ever been - including the weeks after 5yo was born! Decided to take today off sick and am glad I did. Kids aren’t well and just trying to look after them has me exhausted again.

@foone the ones we have are pretty good at staying flameless if you overvolt them slightly. If you overvolt them too much they get *very* good at being flameless and don’t even make light…I suspect if you go too high, they start being bad at being flameless though…
