       I have a cardioid mic, and my coworkers swear they can't hear my snoring dog on Zoom. She sounds like a chainsaw in my monitor earphones, though.

       @tek Zoom does its own automatic noise reduction on top of already using a fairly compressy codec, so sustained background noise tends not to transmit as much as one would expect.

       @tek Try using the zoom web client. Zoom has amazing background noise cancelling going on - which IIRC isn't available on the web. When I am using the web client I can't use my keyboard without getting complaints about the clicky-clack. Apparently it can't be heard when I'm using the client.(The alternative is they can hear and think it is adorable)

       @catbuttes My coworkers hated my MX Blues. HATED them. HATED THEM.If you're on a Mac, check out https://unclack.app. It's a nifty little tool that mutes your mic for a couple seconds every time you press a key. Good: coworkers stopped complaining about my keys. Bad: they started complaining that my voice cut out whenever I was typing notes about our call.

       @Rob_T_Firefly @tek Yeah, Zoom has some ridiculously good automatic noise reduction. I've had loud construction noises going on around me while talking on Zoom and nobody else on the meeting could hear any of it.

       @Wrewdison @tek People who have operated Zoom for things like performance spaces and speaking venues have learned that the software also tends to interpret audience applause or laughter as noise and filter it out.

       @Rob_T_Firefly @Wrewdison That's a piece of information I hope I never have to acquire first-hand.

       @tek @Wrewdison I wrangled Zoom for a synagogue's Rosh Hashanah service, which involves blowing a shofar (a ritual musical instrument made from a ram's horn) and the tone is an important part of the observance. Much to general disappointment, Zoom took that as unwelcome noise and filtered it out as well. 🤖 :flan_shrug:

       @Rob_T_Firefly @Wrewdison See, that's the kind of unexpected consequence that I wouldn't know about if I didn't try to crawl out of my little bubble. I love it.
