@sj_zero I have a relative with an old pickup (90’s Nissan, IIRC?) as a 2nd vehicle for occasionally hauling stuff. He’s been approached a number of times by people eager to buy it. Because no one makes small trucks any more.The car companies won’t make them because below a certain size they’d be subject to overall MPG rules - the average MPG of all their vehicles has to hit a minimum, but vehicles over a certain size are excepted because regulators assumed those’d be rare commercial vehicles.

@lauren with Tesla & SoaceX, the goal is to build a thing for tens of thousands or tens of millions that other people want to pay for, he sort of knew how to manage that. With Twitter, the goal is people’s attention - just make people pay attention. And he had a bag of tricks and they’re no longer working and he’s flailing. He made a purchase that’s hilariously bad, and he’s scrambling for a way to pay for it, but Twitter profits won’t even pay the interest on the loans he took out. It’s a mess.

@adamasnemesis @mekkaokereke but, no, see, coal miner is an “honorable” profession and—Yeah, I got nothing, we’ve been trained to think factory worker or digging underground or such, and not service industry, when we hear “working class”.

@GrantMeStrength @ssb I’m gonna guess that most of those have Raspberry Pi’s inside them - which can run emulators for the originals chips and still outperform the originals. Which is just crazy.

@sukima @atomicpoet @fediversenews @quephird replacing a word marked up by underlining, with Unicode underlined characters is not the right path to go down. The •only• thing that can “easily” parse those characters by default are human eyeballs. Those who need to use screen readers plus any software that searches the text will have trouble with those underlined characters.
