@mikej @sammi @TechDesk there’s no government tax. Just requires Facebook and Google and others to negotiate directly with news organizations to pay fairly for the content they currently scrape and aggregate for free. Which they profit hugely from. TANSTAAFL

@mikej @sammi @TechDesk They already do. Huge amounts, and to Google also. Don’t get me wrong, I never remember a time when I checked FB for news anyway. I don’t think anybody should “make” them share links. If they don’t wanna carry news (and pay their fair share), screw em. FB is the freeloader here, not news orgs.

My Dad, Alan, between two of his brothers, Robert and George in this photo here, taken when they all were retired. Dad, a skilled machinist, was a #union man all his life. 2/ Alan worked 30 more years in the glass container industry and enjoyed almost 30 years of retirement. His brother George worked most of his career at the Fawley Oil Refinery, UK’s largest. Robert worked on the QE2’s engines which propelled it over 2.6 million nautical miles, and received an MBE in recognition of his lifelong labours.We owe a debt of gratitude to all the workers of the world as we celebrate Labour Day 2023. #LabourDay #LaborDay #solidarity #union
