@EU_Commission Maybe we should all tread very carefully. If Russia begins to lose the war badly they could nuke Ukraine. If NATO responded since Ukraine is non NATO then it's an open WW3 as opposed to the current WW3 by proxy. If Russia takes over Ukraine then we have the problem faced in 1939 when we appeased Germany and that didn't end well. I don't see a good outcome at all to this conflict. I see a full global nuclear war as a near certainty.

@brewster And yet Dilbert captured the racist, sexist, ablist, elitist attitudes of IT deparrtments which is EXACTLY why after having graduated in computing in 1990 I never ever entered the IT industry.

Somebody was trying to interest me in learning to fly. That would be interesting but at 55 I think it's probably not something I need to take on.

@seldo I very much agree. I've found interesting stuff to comment on. Sadly the lack of interaction from the OPs indicates that a lot of it is bots posting.I'm getting way more reaction on my posts which are mostly about my adventures with Arduino and Raspberry Pi. My posts are few and far between because I literally only get a few hours each week to work on projects due to work etc

@CliffWade I predicted how I would catch it. I predicted I would catch it at home. That's how it happened.

@EU_Commission but what about planned obsolescence? All the updates these phones get do absolutely nothing apart from make the phone slower and more worthless every year.

@stux Pickup trucks are good but once they added crewcabs, the point of them was lost.

@EU_Commission How about standard, interchangeable batteries for mobile phones so a good battery from a broken phone will be able to power your new phone, reducing battery waste.

Now Google is going to block me from watching YouTube videos because of my heinous use of adblockers so I don't have to watch adverts for tampons, cigarettes, dodgy-dating sites and heroin. So, what can I do on #Linux or more specifically #linuxmint to block these adverts when they're clearly employing an ad-blocker detector?Would a Pi-Hole do it or would it somehow detect that too? Is there something like #Windows had with its Hosts file into which I could just drop the URLS of scurvy adsites?

@matthew I had a go at the Hosts file. At the moment Linux Mint is not being very cooperative. I tried to log in as Admin and had a load of error messages scrolling down the screen for several minutes before I rebooted. I'm unable to edit the hosts file so I'm going to have to try a different approach. I'm trying the freetube app. Downloading it as I post this. I suppose the worst case scenario I will end up putting up a Pi Hole. edit....Realized when I was about to start the download that it needed several gigs of disk space. My little laptop is already slow and overloaded so I didn't press install. I'll see about getting a Pi Zero W to put a Pi Hole in place. That'll be untraceable.

@freemo @DenisCOVIDinfoguy @auscovid19 I disagree that it's here to stay. These things often burn themselves out after a few years. They don't always - Aids for example - but they can - Black Death for example.

@freemo @auscandoc @auscovid19 @DenisCOVIDinfoguy Perhaps these diseases are all appearing suddenly - SARS, MERS, AIDS, Covid-19 etc as a response to overpopulation?

@freemo @auscandoc @auscovid19 @DenisCOVIDinfoguy From what I heard, Aids is a variant of Green Monkey Virus and Aids itself can be traced back to samples from the 50s. It's just that it was only in the 80s that it took off and only in about 84 that it was identified.But... if it originated with Green Monkey Virus then it's as stated due to encroachment on animal habitats and overpopulation by humans. We are heading for a mass extinction whether we like it or not.

@EU_Commission 20-30 years ago I was regularly travelling from Swansea in Britain to Riga, Tallinn and Vilnius.Back then I would catch the bus from Swansea to London because the train was too expensive. Then I would get the train (expensive) to Dover and the ferry to Calais (or preferably Bolohgne)Then I'd hit trains. Calais to Berlin. Once in Berlin, train all the way to Eastern Europe. Whenever I got the train, I'd get a sleeper berth. That way I could get some sleep. It was cost driven. One time I even took the ferry from Kiel to Klaipeda and vice-versa.
