@SDF Am I doing something wrong, two people who have followed me have sent me a message pointing to two issues,1. I have unchecked require follow requests, but their request is awaiting approval and I cannot see it in my notifications to approve.2. My list of followers doesn't seem to get updated even after a couple of days.Does this take a while? #feditips

@tomstafford @clive @genmon Agreed, in today’s world an RSS-Bridge is essential as the feed system is broken. I’m using a self-hosted Fresh RSS and it makes it so much easier to sort through information and filter out the noise.

@clive @tomstafford @genmon it was a close call between TinyTinyRSS and Fresh RSS, I went with Fresh RSS for my use case.

A wonderful read on the origins of Python by Lambert Meertens https://inference-review.com/article/the-origins-of-python. It has some really nice gems in the footnotes too.

@publius The dificulty in finding em dash in many keyboard layouts and text editing software doesn't help many folks use the required dash (assuming they are looking for it). I've noticed that variable fonts tend to have better looking dashes (hyphen, en dash and em dash).

@publius Interesting approach with the textfile, is there a public version of this? I used to have a custom set of bash scripts, but have moved to Espanso now for text replacement (https://espanso.org/) and extremely happy with it so far.

A wonderful read on the ongoings in #web3 and #crypto, specifically Andreessen Horowitz and their practices by @molly0xfff at https://newsletter.mollywhite.net/p/andreessen-horowitzs-state-of-crypto. She is also the person behind the wonderful site https://web3isgoinggreat.com/

@spatula @clive https://www.librarything.com is a treasure trove for finding these kind of books. Ever since they’ve removed their 200 books cap on free accounts, I’ve become a bit more active on it.

@clive @spatula Gutenberg was so much fun to spend hours on! I wonder if the Smithsonian or British Library’s archives have an API, they have some amazing resources.

One of the things I really miss after moving to #Linux from macos is the power that #Mailmate gave me. #Thunderbird does get close but lacks a bunch of things. #Betterbird has been working well for my needs. One feature I miss is the distortion mode from Mailmate (https://freron.com/screenshots/) as I tend to share my screen a bit. Does anyone know of any plugin/setting that would help? Tried looking for loremipsum, obfuscate, etc., but to no avail.cc: @thunderbird

@clive I really need to find that list of #RunningDoomOn up online somewhere. I had compiled a full fledged list of appliances running #doom and using doom for the strangest of things. Here is one from the archives of using doom for process management: https://www.cs.unm.edu/~dlchao/flake/doom/chi/chi.html
