@CatDragon I think I’ll do what I can to shield her from an audience if we have one. Her name won’t be used and absolutely never her face - I’ll try to monitor and screen any comments. That said I’m not naive enough to think she isn’t an extremely online kid. I hope it’s minimal if any.

Update - my $730/mo health insurance does not cover ANY of my $1,394 prescription. I guess I’ll just heed my insurance companies medical advice instead of my physician.

@CatDragon I doubt my doc is super cooperative - she seems pretty by the book. I’ll just do without. It’s a weight loss drug anyhow - I can do that without drugs but it would be a lot easier with. The drug is brand new within 18 months so generic is highly unlikely.

At least in Margaret Atwood’s novel the radical religious terrorists used guns to overthrow our government. In the real version we’re literally electing them to office. I feel that not enough folks read The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. They’re taking over state and local legislatures, councils and boards. Christian Nationalists and Dominionists are absolutely a threat to our democracy. They’ve had this plan for decades and now they’re enacting it. This is a clear and present danger.

I’m getting into some controversial reading today - this is one of the most controversial books in America. Why? It’s the true story of two male penguins who are seen trying to hatch a rock, so are given an egg. They hatch the egg it appears. I’m nervously excited. I really wish I had read this before I watched the show. I think having seen the show has tarnished this experience. The cool thing about the book is the mystery and the ambiguity. If you haven’t experienced this story and intend to do both, go book first.

A state you’re not allowed to take your pregnant daughter out of to procure a legal medical procedure in another state is no longer a state and becomes a dystopian prison. Idaho is about to become a prison for underage girls. I hope this is a wake up call for people who aren’t taking this creeping christofascism seriously — they are coming for EVERYTHING that doesn’t fit into their worldview. If you ever wondered what you would have done in WW2 or Jim Crow, you’re doing it now.

Say what you will - but they’ll stand lock step and on message… no matter how preposterous that message is. It’s still so bizarre to me that I can step away from Mastodon for a couple days without feeling some weird compulsion to check it over and over throughout the day… The algorithms are powerful, y’all. Corporatized social media isn’t all that different from Candy Crush except instead of hits of dopamine from exploding hard candies it’s doom scrolling and outrage to the point of mental exhaustion. I still really like it here. Add in some sports and more funny people and this is perfect.
