@architect lol, even if you look at swift, c, Python and sh will always have a place.Though I do not see why look at swift in the first place, unless you are locked into the Apple echo system.Rust/go/fsharp and clojure seems much more interesting.

@matt Minecraft have a better physics engine in my opinion, when you play Minecraft versus minetest, the controls feel more tight right on, your movement feels smooth and more realistic.

@klaatu @matt AFAIK, GNOME date formats are coordinate with your locale settings. I assume Nautilus is the same.

@matt I apologize for giving you the wrong idea!I know that this is the case for the shell itself, so I was hoping to lead you in the right direction. Sorry that it ended up as a decoy, glad that dolphin works for you.

@tzycce I don't use Chromecast, not because I am paranoid, just because kodi is quite great. Not only YouTube, but a lot of my country cable content is available there (legally)I do use YouTube with my phone internet browser though and not newpipe.

@architect I totally agree. Having your program describe its pipeline via simple printing can save you a lot of time later, things that would have taken hours otherwise, even with a debugger of sort.

Ive been considering making a minimal gtk email client. With vim bindings and the like. Now, implementing SMTP and IMAP is a no go, but with msmtp and isync it is very possible, notmuch to get the email data itself and you are really just connecting a few great open source projects together. Why not just use mutt? Mutt is awesome, but doesn't support RTL languages, which is a deal breaker for me, or else I'd be all over it.

@architect I have, but longggg back. I will give it a second chance.Sqlite with notmuch? Or interface with the emails yourself?

@architect oh wow, that is quite ambitious. Do update if you do so. I might use your code as the backend for the client I will never write xD.

@architect I do agree, mostly, but I think when it comes to email it does depends. It really is a problem with how most mail got bloated by itself, so that is also a quirk to handle.I did look at claws, it does handle RTL just fine actually! but the UI is just so huge for no reason... it feels like the Visual Studio of email xD

@architect Yeah, I did play with the configurations and it does seem to be more lean after a few tweaks.

So, I've been playing around with clojure, or lisp for the JVM and I must say.Even though C is and will probably remain my favorite programming language.Clojure is quite exciting! everything is so different and in a sense so challenging. It feels like I am relearning programming and it is just so fun.I might not go to use it full time, though I will create a dummy project with it just to get a real feeling to it.But so far, I am really enjoying just learning clojure.

@architect same, but right now I am using it inside a docker, so it doesn't burn as much. The thing about clojure is that you have access to the Java framework as well though, that makes it quite cool.

@matt @willywonkball on one hand, I do get the desire to theme your desktop to your liking. However, as you mentioned, gtk doesn't really support theming as of now and different themes can break gtk applications.Obviously, there are ways to fix it, the gtk developers are working on this project for nothing in return out of their free will.Think you have a good idea on how to implement it ? Well, you are welcome to contribute code.

@matt #fedora #silverblue is worth a shot if you are ready to relearn some stuff. It is ostree based, so with every upgrade, you have a safe point to rollback to.Pretty mandatory for a rolling distro.

@DashEquals @farhan Python have a great socketio library, and I think you will be fine performance wise.If you do go for a compiled language, go is worth looking at. As I personally prefer c/c++, if you are not familiar with their quirks, getting started can be time consuming.
