R.I.P. James Harrison, Australian hero, whose blood contained a rare antibody used to create medication to protect babies from a rare blood disorder. Having the antibody was just luck. What made him a hero was donating plasma every two weeks without missing one appointment for 60+ years. @futurebird I love Milo Rossi. I love seeing young creators like him doing educational and science material on YouTube and TikTok, countering the flood of bullshit misinformation. Others of that ilk I love are Lynsey Nikole, Forrest Valkai and Mamadou Ndiaye (Casual Geographic.)

@futurebird @adef187 @teslatakedown.co.uk I've started to find that when I search "red panda" on YouTube that the Shorts especially are becoming infested with AI crap. They're always creepy looking. Which is amazing in itself, that a representation of an objectively cute animal can look so unsettling. The videos look like they're aimed at children and I bet they're AI scripts chock full of incorrect information "read" by an AI narrator. Gross.

@futurebird @adef187 @teslatakedown.co.uk Definitely. I expect there will be masses of these low quality videos about animals, aimed at kids. They can make dozens of them in a day, all absolute dross and chuck them up on YouTube, presumably for the ad revenue.

@stux I keep checking the news to see if at least the one who added the journalist to the group has been fired or has resigned yet, but nope. I guess resigning would require integrity, and firing him would require the POTUS to grasp that what happened was bad in so many ways, something he's apparently incapable of.

In today's "seagulls being absolute menaces" news: Gull samples man's coffee, before stealing the mug and dropping it in the sea. (An actual china mug, not some paper thing.) @futurebird There are so many like him that I call professional opinion-havers. They've got little in the way of achievements or qualifications, but they certainly have a lot to say and for some weird reason people think their opinion matters more than the opinions of any other random person. Like, fine, you're entitled to have an opinion and express it, but why should anyone care?

@futurebird @mjr @MarkHoltom I saw some footage lately as a warning not to only put the U lock around the top tube. It showed two thieves turn a bike horizontal over the top of the rack and turn it until the lock broke open, because the tube and the rack were stronger than the lock itself, so that gave out first. 😬
