@jeffcliff we need a way for things that break NDAs/manufacturer bs to be replicated and searchable. There's a bunch of code on github that can be searched with your favourite search engine, and I managed to get my hands on some software for configuring some qualcomm chips, but it's sometimes tricky to find information.

@jeffcliff like hashes and hashtables are cool but they don't really help with searching for something.likewise internet archive et al will have problems if they try to host copyright protected materials like sample code for a device protected under NDA

@jeffcliff that said with fair dealing in canada maybe this is less of a problem - the code is being used for the purpose of research and self-directed study after all :)

@jeffcliff "Farrell, who is of Irish-Canadian paternal descent, had planned to name him Jeff – a name he is still occasionally referred to by during adulthood – had she not placed him for adoption."huh, TIL

@jeffcliff Do you have the DOI for Arnold's thesis? I might read the abstract.Dr Seuss is worth bumping something boring for on your to-do list. They're pretty short and have big cultural impacts.

@jeffcliff I think being inherently deflationary is going to have some big problems. Consider a scenario where the price of bitcoin drops, but people still need to use it so the number of transactions stay within the same order of magnitude. Miners don't get enough to be worth the cost of electricity, so they stop mining. Liquidity falls, so people use alternatives, which causes the value of bitcoin to fall, etc.

@jeffcliff Ah, I had the issuing rate and difficulty combined in my mind.I was thinking more in the case of "this is actually being used by a large number of people instead of fiat," not as it currently exists.

@PaulWermer @TonyStark A lack of productivity is the major problem in the rust belt and midwest, and it's why Trump's plan is so useless. Improving the GDP in those areas would go a long way to resolve several issues that they face. The second lost people in solid blue areas. I guarantee you the square root of zero people in rural areas give a damn. Many are straight-up cruel, and would support the suffering of the Palestinian people.

@PaulWermer @TonyStark As far as healthcare goes, which is the biggest single difference in QoL between Canada and the midwest, the Dems have been the only option here. As an outsider, it really seems like the only other option available to the Dems and Biden would have been to steamroll the states and try to push as much stuff as they could, and then tie it up in the courts for as long as possible while they had the power to do so.

@futurebird The risk is related to specialization: could you have done something else with the resources you have that would make you better off? For the US, the answer to this question is almost always "yes." Industrial policy can cause economically non-viable solutions to persist, and will increase corruption. This means people are paying more for goods & services, and you end up with worse jobs in the US in exchange for no jobs somewhere they're really needed.

@jeffcliff This is a testament to how incredible some of the cheapest modern microcontrollers are. People's time is expensive, the chips that are economically feasible to recover are often available in lots from your favourite asian marketplace. With that said, disposable vapes are dumb and bad.blogpost can be found hosted on said vape at http://ewaste.fka.wtf/

@jeffcliff For reference, I currently have a design I've been mucking around with for a business card with a cheap microcontroller - they're not *that* much more expensive than ordering a small number of traditional business cards.
