@urusan Until I get tired of gruvbox, or if I switch to Wayland. Or if I get bored and redo the whole thing. Whichever comes first. šŸ˜…

@freemo At least you know where the white supremacists stand, even if they're irreconcilably stupid. I've always been a little baffled by the American left's brand of tolerance. Criticism of religious beliefs, for example, is impossible under the guise of tolerance, regardless of how intolerant or harmful the belief itself is. Sorry but a shitty idea is still shitty regardless of it's packaging.

@freemo Sure, I agree with that. I'm referring to the more general notion that religion is above repudiation in the name of tolerance. I'll give a more concrete example. I am against both male and female circumcision. To me, they're both genital mutilation (although one is obviously worse than the other). Yet, there are religions that promote both these acts. It's not a topic that comes up often of course but I've had people ask, what about Judaism or Islam? Isn't male circumcision part of their religion? The implication being that the practice is beyond reproach because it is religious in nature. It's those kinds of mental gymnastics that don't compute for me, whereby 'the left' approves of actions they would otherwise find objectionable, just because it's part of someone's religious beliefs.

Always strange to me when I see people bitching about twitter (while on twitter), yet they don’t care to hear about alternatives like mastodon. It’s like they keep expecting twitter to be something it’s not, but the idea of leaving or even simply trying something else just doesn’t compute.

@Mogami It’s just so strange to me that someone can be so dissatisfied with a product but keep coming back to it. I hesitate to call it gaslighting, but have to admit it’s a pretty nice setup twitter and FB have contrived for themselves where they’re considered the only viable social platforms.

@Mogami Yea that’s probably the more accurate statement. And ā€œcreatorsā€ are even more obtuse about trying something new because they might lose followers. Which I guess I understand if you’ve put a lot of work into an account so idk šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø It’s not like I have a good solution either…

@worldsendless The article linked at the beginning is maddening. It's not even that it didn't age well, it was just as absurd 6 years ago.> Services like Adblock Plus, which recently launched its own Android browser, are no different from a lock-picking kit for burglars or a lead-lined bag for shoplifters. Even worse, every time you use one of these services, you're enabling an extortion racket where ad-blocking companies charge content providers money to let their ads through the filter.

@freemo Reminds me of what de Tocqueville said about prisons. Same idea, just with unwanted people instead of unwanted animals. At least I think it was de Tocqueville...

I’m continually amazed by where people choose to plant their flag on environmental issues. It seems like most go after the low hanging fruit and completely ignore more foundational issues in our culture or economic system that give rise to those problems.Yesterday I saw someone raging about how smoking is on the rise with Gen Z. It’s so bad for the environment, it’s icky, it’s smelly, and so on…Let’s ignore the thoughtlessness of someone who thinks addicts consciously feed their addiction for a minute. What about the device you used to tweet that? Were the rare earth elements needed to manufacture it mined in an eco-friendly way? When the materials for the battery in your electric/hybrid car were mined in South America, shipped to China for processing, shipped to Japan to manufacture the actual battery, then shipped to the factory in North America for assembly, was that a zero net carbon process? Or, did it produce more waste than a smoker could ever possibly create in her entire life?At this point I feel like I’ve ironically fallen into the trap of blaming other individuals for relatively small problems while larger issues threaten all of us, but I hope my point wasn’t lost in the process. Attacking your neighbors instead of going after the source of the problem is exactly what polluters want. It’s a smokescreen they’ve contrived to keep us busy while they continue doing business as usual.#pollution #climate #climatechange #smoking #cigarettes

@freemo I can see that. Do you happen to have a link? I’d be curious to know where they mark the start of the production process. Is it at the Apple plant, or does it include the harvesting of raw materials and manufacturing required to produce the component parts? That specific statement was referring to the previous one on car manufacturing, but it’s worth noting. Thanks for keeping me honest.

@freemo Something I’ve wondered about going on dives, especially when you get into the hundreds of feet… Do you ever experience claustrophobia or agoraphobia?Hope it’s not a dumb question haha, I understand you don’t go 60m on the first try. It just seems like between the constraints of the gear and the openness of the water there’s a greater opportunity for a panic response to take over.

@urusan I see the two as having a lot in common, even if Gen Z can’t detect a dialup failure by sound lol.Multiple once in a lifetime financial meltdowns, 2 twenty year wars, seems like California has been on fire since the 90s and it’s only getting worse…From my perspective the difference is that millennials are jaded. We were there when optimism died, now we’re pushing 40 and still paying for college. Gen Z still has some fight in them.

@zleapI mean, all litter is gross and bad for the environment. I wish they hadn’t just gone for the low hanging fruit while ignoring every other company that creates our trash. It’s a step I suppose. When governments choose to fine an already unpopular group or industry rather than attempt widespread change it just suggests to me that they’re more interested in revenue than ā€˜the good.’@TheGuardian_uk
