@sullybiker @nova this response sounds hilarious in the voice of the character you have as your avatar. A+

@mekkaokereke If I'm being honest, I have used this type of appeal before, but not in the "Look, see, black people are capable, too" sort of way. It was more in the "What the hell are you smoking, there are so many examples of black people who are just as smart or smarter than their white colleagues, gtfo with that racist garbage" kind of way. Case in point, I don't think anyone should be surprised that you're a Googler. "Wow, a black Googler" is such a shitty mindset.

@mekkaokereke What I'm _trying_ to say is that I'm so sick of hearing "Look, see, a smart black person" as if it's some rare sight. There are as many smart black people as smart asian, white, brown, or <INSERT COLOR HERE> people, and I wish things weren't framed differently. It's _almost_ like the color of one's skin has no bearing on how smart they are or can be. Crazy thought, eh?

@mekkaokereke imagine thinking "Oh no, black people with guns!" while walking around amongst a bunch of armed white guys who, statistically speaking, are _much_ more likely to randomly shoot you.

Nothing in the world can prepare you for the sound that your kids forehead makes when it hits the sidewalk.#parentingDon't worry, he's okay. He's just apparently not the most coordinated kid yet.

@stux I constantly think about the fact that I use more cpu cycles to encrypt and decrypt a single web page than we did to send multiple trips to the moon. There's more computing power in my phone than in the entire building of my elementary school when I was young. There's more digital storage in my office right now than most nation states had for much of the 90s (put together, for most of that time).

I just had a nice revelation: I am the guy that 8-year-old me wanted to be.I wanted to be able to make fantastical worlds that were fun to learn about and explore. I tried to write many a story that got what I had in my head into the heads of others, but it never seemed to click. Now, I do #TTRPG and Video #GameDev as two of my primary hobbies, and I'm doing _exactly_ that, to great results (in my opinion).I'm basically a wizard and 8-year-old me is exulting in it.

Unrelated to the 8-year-old, I'm also the guy 16-year-old me hoped I would be: I didn't become a bitter old dick by the age of 30.40? We'll see. I guess if I keep thinking about "Would younger me have liked me?", I should be okay.

Every day my wife asks me if I can work from the living room. She asks me because she has things she needs to do, and if I'm up there I'm "watching the kids".But the thing is, I cannot watch the kids and work at the same time; that's not how working works. If it were, she wouldn't need me up there.I don't know how people work from offices when they have kids. It seems completely impossible/impractical.

@dldnh You may be joking, I don't know, but: You should try out CSS's grid api. It's easier, IMO, than getting tables to work correctly, and I made hundreds of contracted websites back in the early-mid 2000s with tables.

I get why Discord ends up being the defacto place to put stuff around a community. You start there because it's free text and voice chat. You use it to play games together, and then you need to start sharing news, so you make a channel for that. Then you have stuff you want to distribute to people, and you already have discord, so, why pay for another service?Resist this urge. Discord is not yours. It's Discord's, and that's okay for ephemeral text messages. Use it for that.Own your stuff.

@foone yes. Just.... Yes.Like, I've literally done this manually before, by going through the source code for both gimp and krita to figure out how they did specific things that I tried. It takes _hours_, because of course it does!

@vampiress had a conversation with a younger coworker the other day about git submodules."But why not just use a package manager?"My response was "I agree, now go back in time to 1995 and invent a package manager for C that doesn't suck, and maybe by 2005 Linus won't feel the need to invent submodules."

Hey #HamRadio, google has become useless and my memory has failed me.There exists a wiki for "RF signals", which identifies and catalogs RF signals complete with waterfall displays of the signal.I can't find it. I know it exists.Uh, help?
