A super weird part of US life, is folks feeling horrified by things like Ja Morant and lots of young Black men being armed everywhere they go. And yes, they're 100% right. It's horrific.🤔But... in the US, a much higher % of white men carry guns than anyone else? A lot of US folk are genuinely unaware how many of their fellow citizens walk around armed.If you know how to recognize a concealed carry holster, you'll sometimes see that a dude is armed while you're doing your grocery shopping.🤷🏿♂️

1 in 10 Florida citizens has a concealed carry permit.They don't all carry every day, but still.Most Americans want there to be more gun control.But the far-right element wants there to be much less or no gun control. They're removing even the most basic background checks, and removing the requirements that you complete even a basic gun safety course before getting your concealed carry permit. Just go to the gun store, hand over your credit card, and now you are armed? This is bad.

This is also why Black people get so upset when the police shoot someone and say "He was armed! His gun was found at the scene!"Being armed is not supposed to be a crime in this gun obsessed country. If being stopped by police while armed got you shot, then white men would be shot at the highest rate. But that's not what we see. We see the opposite.The second amendment is not a real right, because of the way our system of justice selectively enforces it. It's the *white* to bear arms.

@mekkaokereke imagine thinking "Oh no, black people with guns!" while walking around amongst a bunch of armed white guys who, statistically speaking, are _much_ more likely to randomly shoot you.

@mekkaokereke This is why it makes me crazy (and I'm white!) to hear people talk about how much danger the police are in. The police know there will be danger when they sign up, and yet they still seem to be a lot safer than the average young black man going about his day minding his own business.

@lmgenealogy @mekkaokereke policing isn't even a dangerous job. This is a false narrative. Your average taxi driver, bartender or gas station employee is far more likely to be injured by crime while on the job and that isn't even considering truly dangerous jobs like working in a deregulated meat packing plant or coal mine....Don't repeat and reinforce the idea that policing is a dangerous job.1/2

@drawks @mekkaokereke People seem to have missed my point here. I'm not the one saying the police are in danger. I'm saying that false narrative is used by people trying to discredit BLM and similar justice movements.
