@vanitasvitae i never understood the people saying "k-9mail looks shit/old/whatever... better use fairmail"Fairmail is an okay client and I appreciate it's existence, but I never really could get used to it's UI/UX 😐 and I like k9mails UI/UX much better.k-9mail is what I consider a very polished and functioning application that is my daily driver for mobile email for many years now. There must really be something significantly better to make me try sth else again 😁

@Hyolobrika The good thing is, it is relatively easy and cheap to selfhost xmpp and provide your own identities (i.e. JID with a domain under your control). Selfhosting matrix seems a bit more complicated to me (haven't figured that out yet). Sure, you're grandma/pa won't want to host their XMPP server. But it is enough if small communities that trust each other share a server, which is really not hat hard, since Snikket facilitates exactly this use case.

@bill Thanks. I might send that to friends. I'm good XMPP wise, happily running a prosody at home (and one in the cloud for testing) for I think 7 years now :-) - But I also did a live demo/presentation of snikket at work once, showing people how cheap and easy it would be to register a domain and spin up a Hetzner VPS.But I definitely would like to try out if matrix selfhosting is possible, too...@Hyolobrika @snikket_im

@tyil if you know your way around docker-compose, snikket can be up and running within 20 minutes - painless! It would also be my first recommendation for people new to xmpp.If you have some Linux skills, endurance in resolving dependencies if there should ne any issues and you know how to deal with certbot/etc, then prosody could be a nice afternoon adventure 😉@mattj

@tux Das ist ja echt ein komisches FehlerbildBeim gleichen Anbieter heisst nicht das alles gleich ist. Nutzt deine Frau vllt. IPv6-only?(internet.v6.telekom). Dismail hat zwar AAAA records im DNS für xmpp, aber vielleicht gibts irgendwelche Seiteneffekte durch NAT64? Ich rate ja nie dazu pauschal IPv6 auszuschalten, aber falls der v6-only APN konfiguriert ist, würde ich den mal temporär auf den Dualstack schalten: internet.telekom@herndlm @daniel

@gnulinux Danke für den Beitrag! Nette lightweight Notizen App. Sync hat anstandslos funktioniert, okay es hing ein paar Sekunden, musste aber auch 700 Notizen von NC abholen. Ich finde auf meinem Laptop wirkt das UI Layout leider zu Mobil-optimiert. Ich hatte gehofft es könnte qOwnnotes ersetzen, das ist mir eigtl. mittlerweile etwas zu aufgeblasen.

Funny and kind of ridiculous, how #apple thinks neither Firefox or Chromium are compatible with their (in Beta) Maps service when i use them on my Linux system, but their support page claims both of these browsers would be supported when i run them on their proprietary Dekstop OS or on a Windows computerhttps://support.apple.com/en-us/120585🤨

@cryptgoatBis XMPP/Matrix Server genehmigungspflichtig werden und Provider verpflichtet werden Port 5222 zu sperren. Wenn das umgangen wird (SRV records 🤷♂️) gibts galt die nächste Eskalationsstufe.... Scheibchenweise...Ich will eigtl. gar nicht drüber nach denken, aber mein Optimismus wird schwächer.Es wird immer für die Masse die Freiheit im Namen der Sicherheit geopfert werden.
