@flexghost No, if it does federate then I don't see what it brings over Mastodon. If it doesn't then it's another walled garden. Mainly I don't think there's much downside, just a lack of upside. Maybe the UI is nice but I prefer Mastodons approach to organic discovery vs algorithms & monetization.

@lowqualityfacts People seem to forget that algorithms aren't a prerequisite for virality. Things can go viral just fine with people sharing things and intentionally boosting stuff. It just means things go viral because actual people decided to make it go viral, not some algorithm pushing stuff it thinks should go viral.

@Rasp Not sure if it's affordable enough but I've been enjoying rsync.net, no frills no bs and they support every common protocol like rsync,sftp,scp,borg,rclone,restic,git-annex etc and they don't care what you connect it to / what you sync from or if you mount it as a network drive. I recently downsized from truenas to Synology and they support the built in Synology backup app too if you ping them to enable it.

@jerry My favorite ping utility is noping which provides a colored graph and handles multiple simultaneous targets, and mtr (my traceroute) which provides a continuously updating traceroute with ping times to each hop which helps you narrow down where latency is happening and I think does rdns lookups to give readable hostnames for each hop and probably other features that I don't pay attention to.

@stux Selling stuff right now seems like a rough time. I'm clearing out old tech before I move and listed a PC worth $500 at current ebay part prices for $250 and I'm getting offers of $100. Maybe something is up with the market right now - the ram in this PC alone is $100 lol so frustrating, but I only have a couple weeks before I need to pack all this stuff too.
