@fedilore by contrast, i do not agree with this post. its just a new version of the same old shit that led to my harassment campaign and where i was doing shit that got me in trouble and heaped upon in said campaign, and helped me unknowingly participate in others. you cannot expect posts on the fediverse to stay contained, it's just not how any of it works, no matter how fair you think it is or isn't, and if that's a concern, you need whitelist federation.as a :rolleyes: privileged :rolleyes: single user admin, who does not block a lot of instances because of said history, i do every now and then get some poast types defacing things or being annoying in my mentions, but they go away and leave me alone if i defed from them. that's enough. anything other than asserting expectations to your users that it may be without you, the instance admin, or anyone's power to fully delete something once it is posted to the fediverse, is dangerous. sure, we all wish it worked differently, but it doesn't, and asking the ultimate questions of the fediverse, "are single instance runners bourgeois?" isn't going to change reality. maybe there are better security models we can come up with, extensions to or evolutions of activitypub that allow promiscuous federation but better control on who sees what, but if you want that you have to work toward that and get your hands messy learning about protocols and encryption and bayseian filters. nothing happens without doing the work.

@apophis @fedilore the anarkiddieness of this group is so frusturating, and i hesitate to put it that way because i don't care to make it an interleft factional spat, but i don't know what else to call it. to them, the platforms that exist on the internet spring from nature as a series of buttons that give you power over others, and there's no regard for where the buttons come from or why they have power. most generously, i can say they simply uncritically import the justified hate for the cororate platforms from which they hail to the fediverse, which is not corporate but instead built and maintained by us. even if we assume those posts are in a good faith desire for a safer network with less ability to leak posts, the answer is not more censorship and cults, it's getting involved in fundamentally fixing the problem. i had a lot of the same concerns during the w.l heyday and frusturation with the leakiness of non-mutual defederation, and i was more interested in what would fix that than bulling everyone. maybe i would have not gotten burned out and been a contributor to fixing some of these problems had i not been abused and harassed who knows, but the people behind that harassment don't want the status quo to change because it lets them be the cult leader that protects them from The Bad People

i think the weird federation problems im having is i think ipv6 broke but i have no clue what the fuck went wrong, nothing looks incorrect but no ipv6 checker tool can connect over ipv6. and i have no fucking clue how to check directly because ipv6 makes no fucking sense to me and god help me i do not know how or even if i can get it working on my home network
