I know that this isn't the way business / economics folks think, but this may be a prime time to rethink the whole "Export Grade" crapIMO, it's long past time that:* 1) You actually keep the best stuff locally - for WHOEVER can pay the premium* 2) You then export the 2nd best grade, with the label "come visit us for the real good stuff"* 3) Grade 3 and worse: Keep doing what you do with thatNow, locals can enjoy the best stuff again, AND you've just boosted your tourism industry too

At the rate things are going, I'm increasingly thinking of lining the front fence with a big *wall* of trees...And maybe the back fence too!(And if property developers try to force our hand... I will turn the whole plot of land into a little urban forest!)👿

@paulhellyer @BobLefridge I think 500 was a limit that was a bit on the low side / too easy to be constrained by. And 1000 is probably just pushing it (as the UI really doesn't work that well in a few ways - e.g. some places start showing "Read More" on those, along with the emoji picker going off the edge of the screen and being unmovable when you do that). While nice/fun to have, 2000 is probably overkill. Not that I'm complaining tho 😜

@paulhellyer @BobLefridge Anyway, I'm do need to remind myself that if I start doing a thread, I really should've just fired up my blog and done the verbiage dump there 😜

Looking forward to knocking off work today to continue personal project hacking work 🤓Yes, I did go to bed way too late last night. Hopefully that does not culminate in another bout of sick next week.Hopefully I do get to work on this tonight, and do not instead have to do any urgent toilet interventions, as I am hoping to get this project shippable by Sunday night (even if rough, and needs. Ore polishing before Wednesday)

@craftygardennz Ugh! I will never understand why anyone would still keep dependencies on anything built / supplied by Oracle in this day and age! 🤮Then again, I do realise that OpenOffice -> LibreOffice did used to have a non-trivial amount of Java stuff, possibly even some of their core plugins if not a bulk of the core app even. But ugh... not fun.

Uncle is coming to stay in a few weeks time.On one hand, it's a good thing... Mum has wanted that to happen for ages, and late Grandma would've wanted it to happen too!On the other hand:TBH, I'm very stressed that he's gonna start smoking inside again. I really cannot deal with that...Either from being around when it happens, or from all the residue building up on my stuff within the blast radius... (and from other whiffs spreading further upstairs and so forth)Getting him to go outside to do it has some downsides too:1) Back door would end up putting most of it straight into my heatpump's intake, which is really bad as it's unliveable upstairs over summer without that running nearly constantly.2) Front door is not ideal either, as the lock occasionally gets hard to engage.Of the current options I can think of though, fixing the front door lock seems the easiest fix... 😬(Also, while I could just stay away at other place the bulk of the time to avoid most exposure to it, that would end up being rather stressful for everyone too)

@lightweight @zl2tod Indeed. It's always a shock to the senses travelling overseas now and smelling it. So gross!

@lightweight Yeah, that failed state is literally falling apart now. The govt shutdown no doubt will be making the already bad postal / tarrif-related situation worse

Hmm.... have we missed some major events on tonight here in CHC? Everywhere was *really* quiet tonight, which seems... odd...

News Snippet:"she did not believe nationalising airports was the solution, as New Zealand was already well down the path of privatisation"In other words:"We've almost succeeded in flogging off all the assets. How dare you suggest we reverse course and sever the gravy chain we've set up for us and our mates"

@strypey @ojala Indeed. I mean, even testing what set of components can work well together as a "set order" that can be forwarded to some commercial "custom pc" builder firms (e.g. PbTech, or one of the smaller firms) is probably a good thing that could see some interest, especially right now with more people seriously looking at moving off Windows.Heck, I'm currently about to test whether my custom setup from a few years ago will work smoothly... (Really, it's fingers-crossed on the wifi working... otherwise, I may be forced to have to run cabling out several doors to the lounge!)

Compile dammit!Rushing to try to get these unit tests done so I can try to get this issue up for review before folks head off for long weekend...It's looking like a might be a lost cause though.Sigh... a innocently simple task that's turned into way more of a ordeal than expected!(EDIT: Oh great... now the unit test crashes when run!)

OMG! This is a most excellent innovation! "Mosquito probiscus used as 3d printing nozzle/needle!" 😍👏👏👏🤣🤣🤣EDIT: Hmm... that's provided it doesn't take off... as then you'd need to farm all those mosquitoes to get enough of a supply! 🤔https://techxplore.com/news/2025-11-repurpose-mosquito-proboscis-3d-nozzle.html

@lightweight I still remember the time that the combo washer-dryer left my PJ's smelling of soy sauce! (or something very similar) 😬 Can't remember what mode I put it in, but I never dared to use that particular mode ever again after that!

Argh, garden emergency! Neighbour had a guy spraying herbicides along their driveway (i.e. where we have a bunch of flowers + fruit trees - notably our ball dahlia, lemon, and fig trees)! 🤬Have gone out and sprayed down everything with a liberal dousing of water. Hoping that we've managed to head off a minor die off 🤞🤞🤞

Way to go Vietnam! Now if only our politicians were not as spineless and beholden to Big Tech lobbying + bullying 🙄Summary:Vietnam to ban unskippable ads with hard cap of 5 secs max before skipping allowing, requirement for obvious close buttons, immediate close option on static ads, and additional controls on ads for harmful products and services. 👍https://saigoneer.com/vietnam-news/28652-vienam-bans-unskippable-ads,-requires-skip-button-to-appear-after-5-seconds
