Senator Warren is perhaps the most tyrannical representative in the US government. She wants all of us to have zero financial privacy or censorship resistance. Absolute hag. @freakazoid OK, apologies for using a word that is age-ist and gendered. Whatever not-good thing she is, the Republican Roger Marshall is as well.

@freakazoid Sometimes I wonder how long before open source game engines like Bevy and Godot will obtain all the features of source-available but EULA-governed engines like Unreal Engine.

@freakazoid Godot seems to be the most developed and supported of the open source game engines. It will be interesting to see how it evolves and whether network effect takes over and sucks the life out of other open source projects. I hope the latter doesn’t happen though.

@alan8325 @freakazoid A thing I’m seeing increasingly done with Bevy is devs using bits and pieces of it in their own custom Rust-based engines. It’s quite easy to do that in Rust as the Bevy engine is just a crate.

@pete @excellion Dystopian take: Twitter (or anything) was probably always going to be a temporary digital public square that both sides in a polarized political climate would use. Musk just accelerated its descendance to part of one cluster of a balkanized social media Internet.

Interesting points suggesting the possibility that we are alone as intelligent life in the universe is significant. Most compelling one IMO is the fact that the time between life starting and our appearance as intelligent beings is the vast majority of the time between Earth’s formation and it becoming uninhabitable (< 1 billion years from now). https://youtube.com/watch?v=zcInt58juL4&feature=share

I'm going to see what the content is like on Nostr over the next couple of months and determine whether I will find a new Mastodon instance (or fire up my own) to keep a presence here after Bitcoinhackers goes offline. Most likely I will keep a presence here in some manner to keep an eye on some interesting tech accounts.

@freakazoid How do you get rid of private property and money in an era when cryptocurrency is a thing?

@freakazoid Yes, a monopolistic security company that has turned into what’s effectively a dictatorship should definitely be a target for banding together to take down. The problem then becomes what to do about the government that inevitably evolves from this “band?”

@freakazoid Also 2027: US removes tax credits and adds tax for EVs larger than an e-bike because of weight and safety concerns.

@freakazoid Epic pump and dump. Probably the only way it gets better is when heavy regulations and/or taxes are imposed on the centralized platforms where these whales do their trades. It’s fun to think about how this happening will drive more volume to the decentralized, but harder to use with large trades, P2P trading platforms. Ironically, the best way to “kill” crypto is probably to let the wealthy continue to abusively pump and dump until people generally hate it with passion.

Love the idea of an open source, modular, high-end VR headset! Not too much of a fan of the NFT, Ethereum and Metaverse stuff though. https://mixed-news.com/en/somnium-vr1-high-end-pc-vr-headset-to-be-shown-at-ces-2023/

@freakazoid Tanks might be going that way too, with cheap, automated loitering munitions able to attack the top armor.

@alan8325 @freakazoid Though we could see a new type of carrier evolve. Drone swarms will likely need some kind mothership and command/relay platform that would be able to get near the conflict zone. Submarines are still pretty stealthy and hard to attack. Perhaps a submarine drone carrier is the next step.

@freakazoid I highly doubt a new generation of submarine drone carriers would be cheap. Imagine something the size of a Columbia-class SSBN, which is $9.15 Billion/unit (A Nimitz carrier is $10.1B/unit), that carries drones mission-tailored to nautical and deep-strike missions. Sure, small, cheap ones can and will be made, but probably for different use cases and probably not here!

I’m certain now that de-shelling a soft-boiled quail egg is simply not possible. Hard-boiled or eating with the shell on it is from now on for those little bastards.
