@Flick Oh my god 🤣 Thankfully that's not a baby elephant, but a sculpture... babies don't have tusks like that.

@Flick She's just moving and its one of her most valuable and cherished possessions, duh. Wouldn't it be yours, if you had it?

@Gelatinousrube Honestly that seems preferable to what's going on here, having outdoors mask mandate removed made people act like they're a pinch away from tonguing random strangers now

@GrendelsMother Maybe white. Men like this believe white women have all the privilege in the world.

Ladies, take away my hairy manhating feminist card 😔 I shaved my legs for the summer. In my defense, I look dykish enough for a homophobic country even with shaved legs, and I really need shorts to live.My compromises with this are:- I only shave with the grain to minimize irritation- I only shave every few days to a week, no fucks given about stubbleDo you make deals with yourself like this, say still wearing one makeup product but eschewing the rest?

@operaghost You should question why is she infantilizing adult people like that. If she is capable of seeing that the statistics are fake, then people who choose to believe them could too.

@operaghost Does she have the same infantilizing sympathy for boomers who fell for Fox News lies, or Qanon idiots, or any other people who have been roped into paranoia like that?

@polarisera That much is not true. My entire family has mild chronic heart problems. Nobody has died or even been hospitalized from them, most simply keep an eye on them, some take medicine and live normal lives. This isn't the same as these post-vaccine symptoms, of course, but mild heart problems do exist. And the amount of these complications is minuscule anyway. Every medicine has side effects. Metamizole, an OTC painkiller, gives me heart palpitations... 🤷

@GCat @polarisera Are we sure that the potential complications from the vaccines are worse or more likely than potential complications from covid, though? Covid is a new disease, too, and we know it has long-term effects on those who have gone through it. We don't know how those effects will look like in 10 years, nor how they will look in today's kids in 10 years.

@PonyPanda @socjuswiz @AnungIkwe @Gnomeshatecheese @MandyJane @ObligateSpinster It's a sad (?) reality that some of the worst excesses of trans individuals like JY could only be exposed and talked about on KF. I've been lurking for ages and I don't recall seeing calls for harassment or violence against people, other than maybe wishing some abusive asshole gets beat up.I don't support everyone on that forum or their attitudes, obviously. But I appreciate every last bastion of freedom on the internet, even if it's the freedom to be publicly retarded.

@heliotropes I feel the same. I live in a heavily conservative country with a backlash against the LGBT and I can't even join "my own" side because it's already filled with troons who hate me for being a lesbian even more than the conservatives.

@socjuswiz I say yes, but the name Terf Jesus could raise the hackles of some women who don't know the joke -- sounds a bit like you placing yourself as a figure of authority.

@LadyMont I have had an ereader for years, so I cannot say it's very new. There is a slight delay between page turning, but that's the same as with physical books. I never really romanticized physical books, so I cannot say if it will ever fill the gap for you, but I love my ereader. I can read almost any book on it, unlike trying to buy or borrow something obscure or in a foreign language. I can adjust font size, so no more squinting at poppyseed letters. It's much lighter than a thick book and more portable. And it doesn't tire my eyes like reading on a laptop.Kindle and other big name brands aren't the only choices, either. Mine is a TrekStor and it has everything I need, and no issues with being too nosy about whether I paid for the book or not. ;)

@socjuswiz @meghanmurphy You're right (especially about the conflating looking clueless to observers), and she is right. There will always be people within any ideology who see any kind of compromise or alternate view on a matter as a betrayal of the ideology overall. Radical feminism is not free of it. In veganism, it can be something like, 'wearing used leather shoes is better than buying new plastic shoes', because it does go against the idea of avoiding animal products as far as possible... but if you look at the whole picture, it can be better for the environment. Same with choosing to not see men who watch "normal" (softcore, with no visible abuse) porn as irreedemable and beyond even talking to. I'm not sure how much I agree or how much what porn someone *really* watches can be vetted, but I can see how a man who already chooses to avoid abusive material may be a potential ally, since he already appears to want to avoid harming women. But that's a conversation not everyone wants to have, and that is their right, too. 🤷 What you wrote, especially as a man, is not going to change their minds.Personally, I think ends justify the means. Compromise in pursuit of a goal is inevitable. Talking to people helps.

@susannunes Look at it from the perspective of a normie with some doubts, or someone freshly peaked, who still has a lot of sympathy for trans people they perceive as genuine but wants to find out more from the other side. They need to be reassured that this is not about hatred or hurting people, and they would very likely be put off by 'misgendering' and not engage with the material. There is a delicate line to thread here.

Would you be satisfied with a language compromise such as "women and other people with cervixes/people who menstruate/etc"?

A brilliant essay about how capitalism created mental illnesses as identities to sell us stuff. It touches very, very gently on gender identities, and at the end he says gender can change (just to have plausible deniability I bet), but almost every paragraph can be applied to it anyway. "As Peretti (before he became a media boss), echoing Deleuze and Guattari, suggested, capitalism breaks down all of our traditional and inborn codes, rules, morals and communities, so that we feel completely lost, and then sells us new ones that require state or corporate intervention. By insisting that everyone falls into a category—neurotypical vs. atypical, ADHD vs. whatever other diagnosis, “real” depression as opposed to intense sadness or grief—we are creating and enforcing structures to understand the world that has been made so incomprehensible to us. We are finding community and meaning through the process of definition. And when someone challenges those definitions, I think it makes people feel like their community (which largely exists online these days), and their very identity, are at risk of falling apart."https://mentalhellth.xyz/p/the-buzzfeed-ification-of-mental

That Lily Cade essay/manifesto is actually the first time I've seen a woman speak as violently about transwomen as transwomen speak about terfs. And I've been in various private groups that didn't soften their words when talking amongst ourselves.I almost feel like she was parodying the kind of content transactivists post on Twitter daily.
