@stux The struggle to open the glove compartment is the realest thing. And the fake one is just…let’s slow everything down for 1/3 the space! The “there’s so much space to put stuff in!” is just so laughable. Congrats, you made the car 40% longer to get the trunk space of a minivan in a less accessible way.“I have plenty of room!” says the woman, with 2-3 inches of space while sitting as compactly as she can while the carseats are jammed up under the driver’s elbow.

@futurebird My cat’s deaf, so I think her happy reaction to being laughed at stems from laughing making me squint or close my eyes, so she thinks I’m slowblinking at her.

@hzulla I’ve used Pandora before for discovering new artists/songs. I don’t think they pay artists much better than Spotify, so I don’t stream much.Instead, once I have an artist, I check my local and nearby city library/their networks for CDs. Hoopla is a library-based service that lets you download 5 mp3s/day? week? Don’t remember.Another option is the browser extension Worldwide Radio. Especially useful if you want to easily find non-English songs (target language?).

@futurebird I feel like the average centrist thinks of billionaires as a mixture of lucky and possessed of incredible business savvy and skill (yeah yeah, I horked too) so while you may be able to walk them through how any given billionaire “earned” their wealth and show how much fraud, mass theft, and ethical and legal violations are necessary, a small part of them will always think “but there must be SOME way to make a billion ethically (because that’s how I’D do it).”

@0xabad1dea We need a new site: Dumb Tech That’s Smarter Than AI.A webcam pointed at a sundial is better at telling time than AI.A fourth grader’s spelling book is better at spelling than AI.An abacus is better at math than AI.

@lanodan @0xabad1dea “Which of these three currencies - the rial, the drachma, and the bottlecap - is worth the most?”“Answer: ‘drachma’, both because it has the most letters, and because it has the most consonants.”

@Eatsbluecrayon Another demonstration would be to bring a chessboard to class, along with extra pieces, and have the class play chess with an AI of their choosing. They’ll get to watch with their own eyes as the AI fabricates positions and pieces. This is especially useful because computers have been beating human opponents at chess for a long time now, so people know that chess is something computers can do. That an AI can’t indicates it is worse than its predecessors.

@futurebird And another one is “how are we paying for this?” And especially “how are we paying enough for this when Texan children drowned for weeks?”

@futurebird I think asking “how do you know that?” whenever people try to handwave things away. This will, of course, inevitably piss off the person you’re talking to, both because the dismissive ones don’t care enough to find out and because people don’t like their knowledge or faith being challenged, but you’re not talking to them. You’re talking to the audience, and planting that seed of doubt. How DO you know what’s happening if there are no records, and what does that mean?

@davidrevoy Cut to a shot over her left shoulder where a ship that is covered in tentacles and clearly in the middle of a battle, with sailors held in the air by suckers and carrying weapons, except everyone has ALSO stopped to clap, including the sea monster with its tentacles, whose clap sound effects are more like “mmmwahPOP”.

@futurebird I dunno if that’d be good for mass transport, but for setting up a line with a small footprint to get from one end of a large campus to the other, that could be cool. Maybe you’ve got ordinary footpaths as Tier 0, moving walkways as Tier 1, and a small monorail system as Tier 2 for different speed short-range transports that can accept almost anything sans cargo?

@futurebird I’d be down for it if it were just the spices used in pumpkin pie - cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, etc.But I hate the taste of pumpkin itself. Is there a “pumpkin spice, hold the pumpkin” option?

@futurebird Where would you like these objects to be relative to other parts of the kitchen? That is, would you prefer a garbage can be close to the sink, or the stepstool nearest the cabinets or fridge? What is the layout of the kitchen, if you don’t mind me asking, because I’d think a design that meshes with, say, an inbuilt island or table might reduce tripping more by dint of associated height than necessarily the merging of furniture.

@futurebird Hmmm, what about a collapseable stepstool that you hung from a hook? Or would that be too annoying to set up when needed?
