@funnymonkey Having tracked fakes for yrs on the bird site, everything you said has been my concern about AI from the start.- People are incredibly easy to dupe w/ fakes. Most don't even do bare minimum to check accts w/ which they engage- The appearance of popularity is part of the dupe. Big numbers? MUST be popular &, thus, real- Then there's the fact that most people insist they *can't* be duped--even as they're being dupedMy guess: We're in for a really bad ride here.

@murshedz In addition to the clear anti-vax messaging, the two men are also bullying Dr. Hotez.They are attempting to belittle him by saying (for public consumption) that he's "afraid" of public debate.Unless they can troll him publicly about anything he says (even a sincere offer to speak off of the hell-house that is Twitter), it won't get them the engagement they NEED, thus they are joining forces to beat up on him.How anyone is still on that platform is beyond me.

@edgeoforever @murshedz Oh, absolutely.What happens online does not stay online. Their bullying tactics have led and continue to lead to real-world threats and continuous harm. (It's a huge part of the reason I just do not understand why people still go on that platform ... even logging in is an mDAU for Musk. He doesn't care *why* someone is there--even if they hate him. He just needs the numbers.)

@grammargirl You're much more of an optimist than I. I (pessimistically) expected that a lot of people would remain--mostly for the addictive metrics (followers! impressions!). But, even I was disappointed to see just how many ended up remaining.For me, shutting down my bird account was a fantastic decision. Zero regrets.Side-note: while I liked you & your work before (found you on your website long before Twitter) ... I like you even more now. Principles are good.

@StillIRise1963 Yesssss.When I first came here (during the Twitter-reinstated Trump exodus), a number of "influencers" also opened accts here. I was genuinely disappointed.But, they proved to be *exactly* who I thought they were. Dependent on the huge (often fake) follower counts and boosting algos that result from those (again, often fake) follower counts, they went back within days.I was very happy to see them go. Platform manipulation is not conducive to *social* media.

@StillIRise1963I can't find the words for how vile they--and what they are trying to do--are.Even my 12 year old (when hearing what FL is doing from the news) was horrified. FYI: standard Blue Cross (in IL, at least) is NOT covering the COVID booster for most people.My kids and I showed up for an appt & the pharmacist informed us that she'd had to turn down a bunch of people today because of Blue Cross's refusal to cover most people (she was unclear on the "who's covered, who's not").$100+ per shot per family member is entirely too steep for this single momOn the brighter side:1. someone besides us was masking2. @killyourfm I'd be very interested in knowing their inputs for their algo.Tracking fake networks on social media for years, I also ended up tracking fake review networks. Some of that research led me to micro-job sites where individuals & companies would pay anywhere from pennies to a dollar (in batches of 100 to 1000 or more) for genuine-sounding reviews. All real people; so, I'm curious how they parse that kind of thing in the algo.

Not sure what the procedure was, but I had a gyno procedure which gave me debilitating migraines (the stroke-mimicking ones w/slurring of words, etc.).My experience: I had migraines early in life but they were periodic and not debilitating... but then at age 19 my gyno gave me a hormone-based shot to treat my endometriosis. Within hours, I had the most skull crushing migraine of my life. After that, all my migraines were skull-crushing and they became chronic.

@futurebird 100%It's hard to express how much I needed a fair trial, a fair judge, a jury, and the full process to work itself out against Trump. Seeing that it's still possible. That the ideal of "no person is above the law" is still holding (even if by a thread) ... matters deeply.

I cannot friggin believe we are still having this stupid discussion ....For the record, I'm still voting against the rapist. WHOEVER is on the ticket, I'm voting Dem.My biggest concern with the ongoing shit-show is that a big enough percentage of people will be demotivated by it all to the point of *not* voting ... thus allowing the RAPIST to win.
