@futurebird This is indeed a problem. OTOH if there is no "bank" to be made then who would be attracted? Is it fair to say that _someone_ will likes doing a given job?Any totalising approach to organising human society is doomed to fail (either completely, or to fail a significant part of the population). Human society is too complex for anything other than patchworks of options.OTOH choosing anarchic approaches where possible is probably a good heuristic.

@ZachWeinersmith I use your book as a "we'll no when some person/organisation is getting serious when we see them starting to fund _these_ experiments. Mostly around food and medical issues.OTOH really cheap access to LEO would make real experiements possible. It would be interesting to see how spacex adapts its iterative approach to landing a Starship on Mars (and taking off again?) The naiive learning time would be minimum 2 years (build, launch, Waaiiittt, crash, get data) repeat.

@futurebird @dgoldsmith I think its more that he realised that, when half your own side's senators and financial backers are actively briefing against you, you are not going to get in.I don't think they want Harris either so I think the Dems are basically moving into clown car territory now.

@futurebird @dgoldsmith Don't get me wrong, I really hope Harris gets straight in there and Biden did the right thing endorsing her. Just not holding my breath.

@futurebird A Petard is a domesticated wild Ard. They are large and strong and can lift you off your feet if you don't train them properly.

@LordWoolamaloo This is one of those "tell people you are old without saying you are old" momements. When I first went to the pub I could get three pints of Banks' and 20 B&H and have change from a quid. 😱 Also, Ooh! ooh! new Tchaikovsky!

@futurebird @vikxin Dried is problematic during nesting season as the chicks get a lot of fluid from insects. Not sure of my facts here so more research etc... but I think may be better to not put dried ones out then.

@collectifission Why on erath would you displace infrastructure that is location dependent (wind) with generation capacity that isn't (nuclear). Build nukes that are proven (large PWR/BWR) in places that they work best (the coast or by big rivers ideally near industrial centres) and have both.(The planned design life for offshore turbines is 25 years so we'll have to see if your 15 year 'recon' matches engineers' models and decades of real world data.)

@collectifission @publius Then I misunderstood, are you going to decomission the wind turbines and replaces them with Nuke barges? or have both? Also, Yet Another new-tech reactor design? I can pretty much guarantee it wont be ready for significant deployment until the 2040s at the earliest (and at that point it will be expensive).(How many molten salt reactors are there in commercial operation again?)

@collectifission @publius But why not replace them? They generate a load of power and are cheap (they'll be even cheaper in 15 years).More your barges on the coast and have both.(Unless you point is we _shouldn't_ use renewables at all and go all in on Nukes)

@futurebird @llewelly Its an historical evolutionary adaptation from the great prehistoric wars against the pod people.
