@john That‘s definitely it too. We‘re still in the very early stages of the Twittanic sinking after being rammed by the muskberg, so for many it‘s not urgent enough yet to man the lifeboats.

@markwitton Speaking of ctenosauriscids, that‘s what my hypothetical Crystal Palace Spinosaurus ended up looking like: https://www.manospondylus.com/2022/08/hawkinspunk-spinosaurus.html?m=1

@markwitton I have indeed been working on a follow-up where I try to draw Cetiosaurus with the material that may have been available/considerable during Hawkins‘ lifetime. It‘s been on hold for a while, but I have already made a hypothetical skeletal for it based on the original C. oxoniensis bones, as well as the skeleton of “Omosaurus armatus“ (Dacentrurus), which was originally thought to be a relative of cetiosaurs. I’ll let you know when it’s finished.

@markwitton Since the skeletal ended up as more “Omosaurus” than Cetiosaurus, it will be settled more in that awkward transitional phase, where Mantell and others already realized that sauropods were terrestrial animals allied with the dinosaurs, but before the American fossil finds by Cope and Marsh uncovered the characteristic long-necked, long-tailed shape. This isn’t a guarantee, but I predict the end product will end up looking like the CP Hylaeosaurus, but with longer legs and arm spikes

@markwitton Owen named it Omosaurus armatus because he originally thought the shoulder-spike of this stegosaur was located on the upper arm

@KakapoJay Do you have a tip on drawing feathers? When I do it in things like this it ends up looking more like scales: https://hardeshur.blogspot.com/2022/10/syncarpus.html?m=1

@john @llewelly Would pterosaur meat actually taste like bird meat? Maybe it would, due to the relation (I know from experience that even alligator meat tastes similar to chicken) and the muscle-tissues‘ adaptation to powered flight, but then again, I think the taste is also dependent on the animal‘s diet.

@KakapoJay @mike There is at least one trace fossil called Garbinia, from the Early Cretaceous of Australia, which is attributed to a stegosaur facultatively walking on its hindlegs: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/02724634.2016.1269539

@markwitton If I remember correctly, in the first movie it is stated that Godzilla is a hybrid of a Stegosaurus and a Tyrannosaurus, which is of course ridiculous for many, many reasons, but does describe the design-process behind him quite well.In addition to that, in some iterations, his face has quite mammalian features reminiscent of Asian dragons, such as a rhinarium and external ears. Perhaps he is no dinosaur at all but a kind of synapsid.

@john @markwitton (Well, actually from inside the anglosphere, but) John Martin and Alice B. Woodward come to mind. From France there‘s Mathurin Méheut. More recently from Germany there‘s Thomas Thiemeyer. Not quite the same, but the topic also reminds me of how Bill Watterson put some noticeable effort into the dinosaurs he drew for Calvin & Hobbes.
