Just thought I'd mention that while I think kbin's ui is janky, and kbin.social's clearly under a lot of server strain, it turns out that it's also not that old. Sounds like it was released as an early alpha a month ago or so?I can give it some slack based on that...

Well, this is irritating.I may have a fair number of linux computers, but there's one windows one I use as well (excluding work).It's actually the one I'm most likely to be on late at night, as it's next to my bed.Well, the power just suddenly went out to my entire apartment, shutting all the computers down abruptly. It came back after a minute.But it's no longer detecting a wifi adapter on that computer. After trying some things, I think the wifi's just dead on it now.Fortunately, I *was* able to hook it up by ethernet. It's silly that it wasn't, actually, as it was right by the router, but all the ports were full. One of them turned out to be a long unplugged cable, though, so I used that one.So, computers working and has internet... but it really does bug me that it now has dead wifi. Built in on the motherboard, too, which makes me wonder if anything else was fried...

You know my own worry about meta joining the fediverse?A buncha instances forming an alliance defederating from meta... and defederating against the people that didn't defederate against meta.The fediverse gets fractured enough. Can we not break it further?

Hmm. Within the last week or two, I get a notification that my free year of Paramount+ is up, and I'll be charged $4.99 a month from now on, Paramount+ cancels Star Trek:Prodigy and almost immediately takes it down off their service, and now I get a notification that the $4.99 I haven't paid yet is going up to $5.99.They are really not doing a good job of convincing me I should stay subscribed.Trouble is that I do want to watch the end of this season of Strange New Worlds...#StarTrek #Paramount

Some quick Mastodon tips:If you are using the web interface:Settings->Appearance->Web Interface has an advanced web interface which is pretty nice!You also likely want cropping images *off* & there are other useful options in there.The settings icon next to notifications is where you can turn the notification sounds off.If you click on a hashtag, it's the same as searching for it, & any time you have a hashtag up, you can hit the + at the top to subscribe to it.When attaching an image, make sure to hit edit, &add a description. Some people can't see the images, but can read them!If you are on a phone, use a 3rd party Mastodon app, not the official one. Unless anything's changed, it's pretty much the worst one to use.Remember the cw button if you want to put a warning on your post, say for nsfw content.Mastodon isn't pushing things to you. Follow people, & put relevant hashtags in your posts, so people can find them!You can block whole instances if you want to...

Worried about threads, or any other instances you find unsavory? Don't be! Just remember that you have options.On any post that's not from someone local, click on the three dots. Obvious options are that you can mute them, & you can block them.That's fine for that one person, but if you are convinced that their instance is a hive of scum and villainy (a lot of times you can tell by looking at that instances local posts, or by the fact that big instances have defederated from them), there's another option in there."Block domain". That'll block *everyone* on that instance. It's easy. I've done it a few times in the past.When I say to check a big instance, just for example, if you go to mastadon.social's about page:https://mastodon.social/aboutHit "Moderated Servers" at the bottom. Not every instance shows this, but this tells you who they've defederated from and why. (Of course, sometimes the name says, say, "loli" or "kiwifarms" in it, & you don't even have to check...)

@futurebird Even if you aren't speedrunning, it's very easy to find yourself trying to optimize things, get the community center as fast as possible, and get rich quick.I mean, if I start a new farm, I tend not to have the community center first year, but it's usually just because I've missed a few of the fish for the fishing bundle...(Funny thing is the game is actually much more casual if you decide to side with Joja instead. Capitalism is easier!)
