Let's GoShall we walktogether, thoughthe horizon bars us,and the sun divides? In the liquid light, come to me,and we will speakof the stars wewill inhabit,in our frenziedmeeting, when this prison wall isbreached, forever.© Simon J Ashcroft, 2025#SJAshcroftsPoems #poems #poetry #PoetryCommunity #MyWordsMyWork

Apparently, I'm supposed to aspire to be a "nice man".May the Gods keep me from that fate. What a fucking insult.

@photovotary I try to be as spiky as the occasion demands...! Though, until now, I've always thought more in terms of Firethorn.

@the_etrain 1. Greed2. Ego3. Self interest4. Stupidity5. Religion6. NarcissismThese pretty well explain what I saw on the news tonight. I could go on, but probably not without using extreme obscenities.

@light I'm not sure that view has support in the myth of Omphale and Herakles. Herakles sold himself into slavery, but the stories seem to point to consensual acts - depending on story-teller's agenda.I'll look at your link at greater leisure. The Brittanica entry is here:https://www.britannica.com/biography/HypatiaMy own view: no mythology is beyond question - including the Judaeo-Christian, which gained ground due to a less bleak afterlife, offered in exchange for unquestioning acceptance@AimeeMaroux

@AimeeMaroux @light Consent and respect for women was no priority for early Christians either, despite current Christian propaganda. At least, that's my reading. The ancient mysteries were likely too restricted in number, unfortunately, to compete in their influence against an aggressively evangelical newcomer. You may be right about the humour. Not sure all ancients saw it that way, though.

@jake4480 I've had no particular issue with Windscribe, and their monthly e-mails are highly entertaining.

@aliceamour Hmm...Not sure there's agreement on what "predestination" looks like. From my paganish standpoint, the idea there is nothing fixed unchangeably, but still experiences we've elected to have, for whatever reason. Which a Calvanist would hardly call predestination, but a materialist might think is of that flavour...Dunno how to vote.Perhaps I was destined to be befuddled...😆

@aliceamour I'm a simple enough soul to be easily befuddled by a process of overcomplicating everything before me...

@aliceamour Not even self-deprecating platitudes? In all seriousness, and accepting my outlook is some distance from standard materialist "wisdom" – I see predestination as one of those terms that people assume they know what it means, when there are all sorts of ideas it could contain, from Calvinistic doctrine, through variations of Karma type ideas to the thought that we make our own fate.My thought is nearer the latter. Is it "predestination" as you would term it? I don't know.

#ScribesAndMakers 20th Dec 2025. What do you do to discourage or prevent insects and animals from eating your garden?I'm more concerned about stopping a local cat trying to eat the wild visitors.
