@aliceamour Hmm...Not sure there's agreement on what "predestination" looks like. From my paganish standpoint, the idea there is nothing fixed unchangeably, but still experiences we've elected to have, for whatever reason. Which a Calvanist would hardly call predestination, but a materialist might think is of that flavour...Dunno how to vote.Perhaps I was destined to be befuddled...😆

@aliceamour @SJAsh_03 This statement is false. Yes or No?

@aliceamour I'm a simple enough soul to be easily befuddled by a process of overcomplicating everything before me...

@SJAsh_03 I do not accept that you hide behind platitudes.

@aliceamour Not even self-deprecating platitudes? In all seriousness, and accepting my outlook is some distance from standard materialist "wisdom" – I see predestination as one of those terms that people assume they know what it means, when there are all sorts of ideas it could contain, from Calvinistic doctrine, through variations of Karma type ideas to the thought that we make our own fate.My thought is nearer the latter. Is it "predestination" as you would term it? I don't know.

@SJAsh_03 @aliceamour I tend to think of it as following the path of least resistance. For instance if you're holding a solid stone at sea level on Earth, and release it from your hand, it's predestined (presuming no intervening counter forces of equal or greater magnitude) to fall towards the ground. More complicated systems will all show a similar pattern of travelling the path of least resistance (ie. increase in entropy), even if the number of variables involved in the process is too complex for us to rationally determine. Even so, the irrational intuition can often piece together what will happen in advance. It's a perennial debate which goes back to the earliest times of recorded human thought. It's essentially a (possibly false) dichotomy between free will and materialist determinism. In thousands of years no one has yet resolved that debate conclusively.https://www.ams.org/notices/200902/rtx090200226p.pdfAll hail the Norns and Fates/Moirai (with their spinning and weaving), Fortuna (holding a gubernaculum), and other such representations of human romantic thought on the subject!
