After last night's emergency situation in Denmark, with various public authorities posting updates mainly or only on X/twitter, I really hope that there will be a serious discussion of alternative channels in the coming weeks. This is so cool! There is an annual mass #biodiversity experiment in Danish schools, which this year involved 30,000 kids collecting + examining samples of moss + lichen. Only 5% have been examined so far but they've already discovered 5 species of water bear unknown to science. Watched #BillyElliot for #FamilyFilmEvening. It's aged rather well, though possibly a little too nostalgic for the bad old days. Kids have gleefully learned a whole new stable of swearwords and how to use them. Youngest is now going round trying to talk in County Durham accent.A bit of a relief from their endless Americanisms. Would love some suggestions from the fediverse for other family films suitable for tweens/young teens with perhaps slightly challenging subjects...

Danish public broadcaster #DRdkTV has a really excellent series #KrigensDøgn (24 hours of war), with genuine experts on weapons, strategy, geopolitics etc talk about #Ukraine. If you speak Danish it's really worth a watch. It's frustrating that Europe is losing focus at a very crucial time - it's more important than ever that #UkraineWillWin. Discussion of where Bethlehem is with youngest (first guess was Greece, 2nd was Türkiye.?) Rapidly derailed into discussion about Gaza, Israel etc. With disarming directness, youngest asks, "so who are the meanies there now?" And we discussed the last few months, but my attempts to explain the last 150 years, never mind the last few thousand met with utter confusion. So #fediverse do your thing. A good book/video simply + impartially explaining the middle east would be great.

A possible explanation as to why I have been feeling so awful this week. Influenza A+B, #Covid19 and RS virus all sharply increased this week in exactly the #Copenhagen region. @appassionato @photography Gorgeous photos. I know exactly where the beach ones are taken, that's the beach at Jokulsarlon in Iceland - I did my PhD fieldwork on the glacier behind that produces all those icebergs - it's a wonderful location, and probably the most photographed glacier in the world. A worthy entry to #icetodon. Also some very fine hoar frost needles!
