@oklomsy Agree. And healthy in most versions, too. I understand why the soup kitchen is a way that charities feed folk in the most economical & healthy way.

@thor I decided to abstain in a big way, and succeeded. But now and then a tiny glass of Riga Black Balsam. Then no. 1 son gave me a bottle of Lignie Aquavit (my weakness) for Christmas. I'll stretch it out for as long as I can, After all it does a third trip from Norway to Australasia (in a bottle)

@sullybiker It's apparently common post cataract surgery. The laser fixit for me was so fast and painless I wondered if the doc had done anything at all.

@Mr_NutterButter @thor Americans can be insular and self righteous. Two experiences working with two groups: 'Sorry you can't play an NTSC u-matic cassette on an Australasian PAL player' Them: 'Of course you can, it's all the same' (it wasn't)========================Sound post crew from Skywalker Sound SF: 'We demand 3 ring binders and punches, these 2 ring ones are not what we are used to.' The 3 ring alternative was 5 times the price. But they had to accept A4 paper.

@lowqualityfacts It was always a welcome sight: the milkman with a large container that we took our own cans to fill from. And the bread was delivered daily too. It needed to be because the food technologists hadn't worked out the chemistry to make it last for months at that time. There was an actual horse as well as the 'actual human' involved in the transaction. But I'm a little pre 'Boomer' (much as I hate to use that stupid word)

@strypey I realise that it's a 'work in progress' but it does at least exist. Unlike Australia's relations with its First Peoples in every way. The new Labor government is facing opposition to inclusion of a clause in the Constitution that would mean they have a 'Voice' in matters that are of importance in their particular lives. A treaty must be decades away.

@fediversereport @atomicpoet @jeffjarvis I have a close acquaintance, a well qualified journalist, who was turned down by The Guardian for a job because of his low social media involvement. They meant Twitter, Facebook and such. Not Mastodon. Press employers are part of the formula that keeps journalists within the approved limits.

@CitizenWald I remember Supraphon. I had an LP of Leoš Janáček's 'Glagolitic Mass' many years ago published by them in Communist days.

@CitizenWald Too far back for me to remember. It was a Czech performance, of course.I only recall liking it, and how sturdy the vinyl was; no flexibility like DGG etc. It's interesting to note how some of these national orchestras after their exit from Communism became "journeymen" to Western cinema scores, and Naxos CDs.

I wonder if there will be a day in the future when everybody is amazed that in the 20 & 21C so many people felt the need to drive around in a truck, which at best endangered everyone near it and at worst destroyed heritage, history, and culture?"Ancient Aboriginal sites on Tasmania's rugged and national heritage-listed northwest coast have been "destroyed" by off-road 4WD users, an Indigenous group and conservationists claim"https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/aboriginal-heritage-sites-destroyed-by-4wd-users/08cgdq41x?dlb=[2023/04/15]%20del_newswkend_bau&did=DM23787&cid=sbsnews:edm:acnewswe:relation:news:na:na.

@CitizenWald It took me a while, as an Australian who didn't study modern history at high school, to figure out that USA was a latecomer to WW2 and didn't win it almost single handedly, with a little help from my home country.

@rolle That's beautiful music. I must listen to Sibelius's full 'Finlandia' again. And not only to his darker later symphonies.
