It's funny how, in a space of a year, we've gone from, "The Fediverse will fail because no one uses it" to "The Fediverse will fail because everyone will soon use it."Some people just prefer doom and gloom, I guess.

@atomicpoet Journalists can't even bring themselves to leave a site run by someone who hates them, promotes right-wing extremism, and has contempt for the political system that protects journalism (among other things). They'll come to the fediverse if, and only if, Twitter completely collapses. I say that with sadness. @jeffjarvis

@dangillmor @atomicpoet @jeffjarvis I have lost respect for a lot of journalists I used to hold in the highest esteem.I can see maybe (big maybe) keeping a presence there, but not also building a presence in other places to provide information and support for readers/listeners/viewers who want to leave is inexcusable.They seem to care about democracy and fairness a lot less than they proclaim.

@grammargirl @dangillmor @atomicpoet @jeffjarvis Consider the decades journalists spent making peace with hedge fund-run media chains, publishers hollowing out newsrooms & publications on corporate orders, laying off most experienced & critical journos while sending 20-30% profits to shareholders. But we believed in the mission. Some of us went to academia. Which is now also being hollowed out the same way. It is independent & critical questioning that these forces are so desperate to shut down.

Much of my professional social marketing efforts now take place on LinkedIn, and a bit here. I've made a conscious effort to up my game on LI. It is work, sure, but I sure don't miss the toxicity.

@atomicpoet @jeffjarvis I've been surprised that not more journalists are jumping on the massive opportunity thats here on the fediverse. My background is not even in journalism, and it's been obvious to me.Especially for independent journalists, where you depend on having building your own audience, there is simply so much value in being early to a new network.

@fediversereport @atomicpoet @jeffjarvis I have a close acquaintance, a well qualified journalist, who was turned down by The Guardian for a job because of his low social media involvement. They meant Twitter, Facebook and such. Not Mastodon. Press employers are part of the formula that keeps journalists within the approved limits.
